Shri Bade Hanuman Ji Mandir is also known as Shri Bada Hanuman Temple or Shri Lete Hue Hanumanji Temple. Likewise Prayagraj is the latest name of Allahabad in Uttar Pradesh. This is a famous and most Sacred underground Temple close to the Banks of Triveni Sangam in Dharaganj in Prayagraj. The exact location could be told as near the Allahabad Fort and the Triveni Sangam.
The Presiding Deity of this Temple is Shri Bade Hanuman Ji or Sri Lete Hue Hanuman Ji who is seen South facing and in a reclining or Sayana posture and the Sanctum Sanctorum is almost 6 to 7 feet below that of the ground level. The Presding Deity of Shri Bade Hanuman Ji or Shri Lete Hua Hanuman Ji is seen holding a Ahiravan on one hand and with a Demon on the other. During the high tide and monsoon time it is a wonderful sight to see River Ganges or River Ganga in spate and during this time the overflowing River Water seems to touch the Divine Feet of Bada Hanuman Ji Deity as though Mother Ganga is washing the Divine Feet of Shri Hanuman Ji.
There is also a mythological belief that Shri Hanuman took to a recling posture to take rest on the request of Goddess Seetha. Any Devotees visit to Prayagraj would stand incomplete without a Holy Dip in the Triveni Sangam and a visit to this Temple. It is also said that tha Moghul Emperor Akbar who was willing to his hold on the Hindus tried his maximum to get this Presiding Deity of Shri Bade Hanuman Ji uninstalled from this place but the Idol did not budge and Akbar miserably failed to remove this Idol. This glorified the Power of Shri Hanuman Ji to a great extent thereby humiliating Akbar. This Temple draws enormous number of Devotees particularly on Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Hanumath Jayanthi, Sri Rama Navami and Narak Chathurdesi are celebrated with great fan following.
Male Devotees can enter the Temple either with Pant or Dhoti while Female Devotees are allowed with a Saree, Salwar Kameez with Duppatta.
