Arulmigu Kamakshi Amman Temple is located in a busy area in Mangadu, Chennai. There are two entrances to enter this Temple premises. The South facing entrance is the main entrance and it has a seven tiered Rajagopuram close to which the vehicular parking is found along with a few shops. The entrance on the East does not have any Rajagopuram but this entrance is more popular among the Devotees. There is a Marriage Hall close to this entrance and the Temple administers this Wedding Hall. On entering the Temple through the South entrance there is a small Sub Shrine for Varasiddhi Vinayagar. On the Eastern side there is a Neivedhya Peedam and a Simha Vaahanam with a four pillared Mandapam facing the Moolasthanam but there is no entrance for the Devotees here. There are free and various other types of Paid Darshan. All the Devotees may have to enter through the Southern entry point and take a left turn to have a darshan of Sri Kamatchi Amman. There are two tall and colourful East facing Dwara Baalaki Idols just before entering the Moolasthanam. In the Sanctum Sanctorum Sri Kamakshi Amman looks dazzling and in a standing posture facing East. Just beneath Her pedestal is the Sri Arthameru Sri Chakkaram which was installed here by Adhi Shankarar. Close to the Moolasthanam is another Shrine for Thapas Kamakshi who is seen South facing and standing on a single foot as thouigh in Penance. It is believed that Sri Kamakshi Amman when young was in a playful mood and inadvertently She closed the eyes of Lord Shiva. Getting furious Lord Shiva Cursed Kamakshi Amman to stay away from Him for certain time. This was the time when Kamatchi Amman stood on Her left leg over the Agni doing Penance. Hence the name Thapas Kamakshi for Her. Just away from the Moolasthanam is an East facing Idol of Aadhi Shankarar. Closeby are the Urchavar Idols of Saraswathi, Kamatchi and Lakshmi which are South facing and they kept within a small Mandapam. Beyond it is an Idol of a West facing Ganapathy and Suryan. The Temple has huge covered corridors on all four sides and this is held intact by multiple pillars which are gorgeously painted. At one end of the corridor is a Thirukalyana Mandapam were Divine Rituals are held periodically. There is an East facing Nava Kannigaigal Sub Shrine in which the Idols Koumari Kanni, Thiripura Kanni, Kalyani Kanni, Rohini Kanni, Kaaliga Kanni, Chandika Kanni, Sambhavi Kanni, Subhathra Kanni and Durga Kanni are found flanked by two Naga Devathas on either side. Close to the Northern corridor is a huge Pushkarani or Sacred Tank which is well maintained. The Temple has a Madapalli and a huge Annadhana Koodam for the sake of the Devotees. The Temple has a library in which spiritual books are seen on display. The Temple also has an exclusive Divine book shop. Thulabaara facility is available in this Temple. Some Devotees make it a point to have a hold dip in the Sacred Tank of the Temple and perform Angapradhakshanam which means rolling the moist body of the Devotee all over the corridor while chanting the name of Sri Kamakshi Amman. Chithirai Month, Aadi Poram, Navarathri, Thirukarthigai Deepam, Thai Poosam, Arudhra Dharisanam are some of the festivals celebrated in a grand manner. This  Temple is considered and revered as a Parihaara Sthalam and hence it attracts a lot of Devotees from all over.
