Sri Kurinchi Andavar Temple is located in Kodaikanal which is a well known hill resort in Dindigul District. This Temple was initiated and built by a British woman in the year 1936. It is said that this British woman was fond of Hindu Gods and Hinduism subsequently changing her name to Leelavathy. The Temple has a conventional three tiered Rajagopuram. On entering the Temple a huge Vel or Spear which is the Divine weapon of Sri Murugan is firmly rooted to the ground. Next is a tall Dwajasthambam or Kodi Maram and next to this is a four pillared Mandapam beneath which a small Neivedhya Peedam or Bali Peedam and a Mayil Vaahanam or Peacock Vaahana Idol look towards the Moolasthanam.

The Presiding Deity of this Temple is Sri Murugan who is known here as Sri Kurinchi Andavar. Kurinchi is the name of a Flower which blooms and blossoms once in 12 years. Generally it is believed that Sri Murugan has a Temple for Himself in most of the Hills. Hence it is no surprising that this part of Kodaikanal was chosen as His choicest place to build this Temple. There are Sub Shrines within this Temple for Sri Vinayagar, Maha Vishnu, Garudan and Sri Hanuman. Apart from these Sub Shrines there is a Navagraha Sannadhi too. This Temple comes under the care of Sri Palani Murugan Temple in Palani. Being a Tourist centre and a much sought after Hill Station there is a steady inflow of Devotees and Tourists alike. The Tourists come from all over India and abroad too. People are delighted to have a glimpse of Sri Murugan Temple, Palani from here. Shasti, Thai Poosam, Aadi Kiruthigai, Vaikasi Visakam are conducted with great fanfare.
