Sri Vaikuntavasa Perumal Temple is situated in Koyambedu just behind TOYOTA Car Showroom and could be reached from Poonamallee High Road.  Koyambedu was earlier known as Kusa Lava Puram, Koyattipuram, Kosai Nagar, Prayachithapuram etc. The Presiding Deity is Sree Vaiguntavasa Perumal who is an incarnation of Maha Vishnu. His Consort who is known here as Kanakavalli Thaayar, is actually an incarnation of Mahalakshmi.  The Temple is supposed to have been built during the days of the Chola Empire and it was actually King Kulothunga Cholan III who started the construction of this famous Temple. It is located close to Kurungaleeswarar Temple and both the Temples are closely knit and connected to the Ramayana. Seetha when banished by Sri Rama came here and lived under the care and custody of Sage Valmiki. When Rama performed the Ashwametha Yaagam His Divine Horse was caught by Lava and Kusa and tethered to a peg here and when Lakshmana came in search of the missing Horse He was defeated by young Lava and Kusha. Then there was a patch up through Sage Valmiki. On the request of Sage Valmiki, Rama stayed in this place and granted a darshan as Lord Vaikuntavasa Perumal.  Hence this place gains prominence. Usually in other Vaikundavasa Perumal Temples the Presiding Deity is seen in a sitting posture but unusually here the Presiding Deity of Vaikuntavasa Perumal is seen in the Air Conditioned Sanctum Sanctorum in a standing posture along with His Consorts Sri Devi and Bhoo Devi. The Urchavamoorthy in the Sanctum Sanctorum is Sri Bakthavatchala Perumal. The Idols of Sri Rama and Seetha are seen just outside the Sanctum Sanctorum in a normal attire rather than their Royal Attire. It is unique that Rama and Seetha are found alone without Lakshmana and Anjaneya Swamy. This signifies the 14 year period they spent in the forestry. Just outside the Sanctum Sanctorum there are Idols of Sage Valmiki with Lava and Kusha as kids. Next to it is another Idol of a Motherly Seetha. Closeby all the Alwar Idols are kept at an equidistant space.  On entering the Temple there is a Dwajasthambam or Kodi Maram, a Neivedhya Peedam or Bali Peedam and a small Sub Shrine for Garudan facing the Sanctum Sanctorum. To the left of it is a Sub Shrine for Vinayagar. Next to it is a Neem Tree which is Divine in nature and it is believed that unmarried women get their wishes fulfilled when they bow and pray before the Divine Neem Tree.  Beyond it, is a pillared Sub Shrine where Goddess Kanakavalli Thaayar Blesses Her Devotees.  Andal finds Herself in another Sub Shrine and facing it is a corridor like Mandapam where functions could be held.  For now they have wrapped and stored all types of Vaahanam in this Mandapam. In between the Sub Shrines of  Kanakavalli Thaayar and Andal, Naga Devathas are neatly placed. The speciality of this Temple is that it is a Nithya Sorga Vaasal Kovil. The Main Temple has a Nandhavanam or Temple Garden with a compound wall. Directly opposite to the Temple is a Sub Shrine for Hanuman and He is called here as Rama Baktha Anjaneyar. Devotees pray to this Anjaneya Swamy and tie a coconut wrapped in a yellow cloth for their wishes to get fulfilled. The massive Idol of Anjaneya Swamy sculpted in a black stone is awe inspiring to any Devotees visiting this Sub Shrine.
