Sri Veeramakali Temple, Perambur, Pudukottai District, Tamil Nadu

  • Sri Veeramakali Temple, Perambur, Pudukottai District, Tamil Nadu

Perambur is a village located in Kulathur Taluk in Pudukottai District. Sri Veera Mahakaali Temple is a landmark Temple of Perambur. There is an interesting History behind this Temple. Several centuries ago there was a Demon known as Semmuni. He was an evil spirit and would attack places in and around Perambur Village and would kill and eat the Human Beings and Cattles. He was a Cannibal and very fond of Human Flesh. The people of the Village Prayed to Semmuni not to kill all villagers at a time but instead they would send a person to him on a daily basis. One day it was the turn of a widowed lady to send her son to Semmuni. The widow got perturbed and Prayed to Sri Veera Maha Muneeswarar to save her family from this calamity. Therefore Sri Veera Maha Muniswarar took a massive Avathar and stamped and pressed the evil Semmuni to the Earth and buried him live. The entire village were full of glee since Semmuni was defeated and killed after this incident Sri Veera Maha Muneeswarar called His beloved sister Sri Veera Makaali and requested Her to stay in the Temple of Perambur which She agreed. After this incident Sri Veera Makaali was considered as their Village Deity. Local Villagers have a strong belief that anyone Praying to Sri Veera Makali would be restored of their stolen Wealth, Property etc. In recent days the name and fame of Sri Veera Makaali has started spreading in many places. Therefore Devotees from far and near visit this place to offer their Prrayers to Sri Veera Makaali and Sri Veera Maha Muneeswarar. Though the Presiding Deity is Goddess Sri Veera Makaali for whom there is a Shrine, there is a Sub Shrine for Sri Veera Maha Muneeswarar too. Milk, Cattles and Poultries are offered to this Goddess as a mark of Respect.
