Sree Kailasanathar Temple is located on the main road to Virinchipuram.  In earlier times Virinjipuram was called as Gowripuram or Vindupuram.  The Temple has a three tiered Rajagopuram with a wooden gate. One the outside of the Temple there is a small Ganapathi Idol installed and colourfully painted. The Presiding Deity is known as Sri Kailasanathar who is an incarnation of Shiva and He is found here as a Shiva Lingam in the Sanctum Sanctorum.  In the same building just outside the Sanctum Sanctorum is another huge Shiva Lingam.  Facing the Presiding Deity is a huge black Nandhi and a Bali Peedam and next to it is a five feet small stone Dwajasthambam.  His Consort here is known as Goddess Dharmasamvardhini and She is an incarnation of Goddess Parvathy and She is seen in a standing posture in Her Sub Shrine.  Opposite to the Ambal Sannadhi is a Simha Vaahanam and a Bali Peedam. There are Sub Shrines for Ganesha, Valli Devasena Samedha Arumuga Swamy, Dhakshinamoorthy, Vasudeva Perumal, Brahmma, Durgai, Chandikeshwarar, Kaala Bhairavar and Suryan.  There is a Navagraha enclosure at the rear of the Temple and Surya Bhagwan is seen riding a Horse drawn Chariot at the centre of it.  At the rear side of the Temple there are few Trees and Childless Couple who come and pray, buy a wooden cradle and tie it to the Tree.  In such cases it is generally believed that such couple would soon have a kid with Divine Blessings.  The Temple has a big compound wall and on top of the wall several Nandhis are kept at an equidistant space.  There is no car parking facility and vehicles could be parked at the side of the Temple or in the nearby street.
