The Presiding Deity of the Temple is Lord Jalakandeswarar who is none other than Lord Shiva Himself. He Blesses His Devotees along with His Consort Akhilandeshwari Ambal. This Temple is located inside a huge Fort. This Temple was invaded by Tippu Sulthan and Hyder Ali. Since these rulers demolished  Nagalamman Temple and constructed a makeshift Mosque, because of which Temple was completely closed and the Presiding Deity was removed and taken to Jalakanda Vinayakar Temple in Sathuvachari. This Temple was kept closed for 400 years and was reopened only after the Archaeological Survey of India took charge in the year 1921. In the year 1981 Mailai Sundaram Guruji of Thangal Ashram brought back the Presiding Deity and installed it again inside this Temple. This Temple was built by Rulers of Vijayanagara Empire. The monoliths and sculptures of this Temple shows the intricate details of Vijayanagara's Art and Architecture. Holy Water from the Sacred Well Named Ganga Gouri Theertham is used to perform Abhishekam to the Presiding Deity. This Temple is one of the major landmark of Vellore City and it draws huge number of Devotees from far flung Areas.
