Sri Thiru Periyandavar Thirukoil is located in Banduvarpatti in Sattur Taluk in Virudhunagar District. Devotees may have to take a detour near Sattur on the National Highway to reach Banduvarpatti. This is an East facing Temple without any Rajagopuram. Instead there are two East facing entrances. The bigger of the two entrance has a Welcome Arch in which a coloured Idol of Sri Periya Andavar is seen East facing and in a seated posture. Flanking this is a coloured Idol on either sides are the Idols of Sri Vinayagar and Sri Murugan. The smaller East facing entrance also has a coloured Idol of Sri Periyandavar on its top. Facing the Temple entrance is an Idol of Tortoise which is guarded by a five headed Serpant and there is a Lotus on a squarish podium above it.
Facing the Moolasthanam is an Idol of Sri Kalludaiyan Swamy kept on a podium. The Moolasthana Mandapam is comprised of multiple pillars which are painted in yellow and red contrasting colours. On either side of the Moolasthana Mandapam two white Galloping Horses are seen with two men in front of these Horses. On the saddle of these Horses are two soliders who are seen wielding their swords. On the threshold of the Moolasthanam there are two attractive coloured paintings of Sri Garudalwar and Sri Anjaneyar who seem to stand guard. Sri Periyandavar who is considered as an incarnation of God Shiva and who is the Presiding Deity is seen in a sitting posture facing East. He looks awe inspiring to the eyes of the Devotees in the backgound of the Golden Throne. He is seen holding a Silver Staff. The Presiding Deity is also called fondly as Periyandavar Karuppusamy by the local residents of this area. The Moolasthana Mandapam looks accentuated since even the ceiling has been painted in eye captivating contrast colours with various designs.
The outer peripheral of the Temple has an East facing Sub Shrine of Sri Kaala Bhairavar who is seen in a standing posture. The Gopuram of this Sub Shrine has a coloured stucco Idol of Sri Kaala Bhairavar. Close to this is another East facing Sub Shrine of Goddess Sri Kichammal who is seen in a standing posture. This Sub Shrine too has a coloured Idol of Sri Kichammal at the top of its Gopuram. There are two Idols at the base of the pillars of Her Sub Shrine which is similar to the Dwara Baalakis. The Sub Shrine of Sri Karuppaswamy is also East facing and He is seen in a standing posture with a sickle in His hand. The Gopuram of this Sub Shrine has a coloured stucco Idol of Sri Karuppasamy on its top. At the posterior side of the Temple premises is an East facing Sub Shrine of Sri Kanni Vinayagar who is seen flanked by Sri Raahu and Sri Kethu. The top of this Gopuram has a coloured stucco Idol of Sri Kanni Vinayagar. Within this Sub Shrine a small Moonjur Vaahanam is also seen facing Sri Kanni Vinayagar. The Sub Shrine of Goddess Lakshmi attracts the attention of all Devotees by its globular coloured Gopuram. Goddess Lakshmi is seen here East facing and in a sitting posture.
The Temple has earmarked two places for Thalai Mudi Offering and Ear Piercing. The Temple also has a small South facing entrance which could be used on festive occasions when the number of Devotees is much more than on normal days. The Temple has a huge Annadhana Koodam for its Devotees to Sit and Eat. It displays the Name and Images of all Donors who have contributed for the sake of this Temple. Most parts of the Temple are covered by tin sheet roofing which could be a source of relief to the Devotees from the vagaries of Nature. Maha Shivarathiri is celebrated in a grand manner. Chithirai (Tamil Month) Thiruvizha is celebrated on the last Friday in this famous Temple when all people in and around this area throng this particular Temple.
