The Presiding Deity of this Temple is Gunanatheeswarar  and He is an incarnation of Lord Shiva. He Blesses His devotess inside the Sanctum Sanctorum. The Presiding Deity is a self manifested Swyambu Lingam. This Temple is one of the oldest Temple in Kanyakumari City and is 1000 years old. This Temple was built by Chola King Rajaraja Chola. There are 16 inscriptions which dates back to 11 Century AD. This Temples is built by following typical Chola Style of Architecture. Festivals like Mahashivarathri, Prodosham, Makara Sankaranthi, Skanda Sasthi, Vinayakayar Chaturthi are celebrated ina grand Manner.
