Shri Mamleshwar Temple is also known as Shri Mamleshwar Jyotirlinga Temple and it is located on the mainland of Omkareshwar on the Southern Bank of River Narmada. Many consider it as a part of Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga Pilgrimage. Many Devotees visiting Shri Omkareshwar Temple never fail to visit and seek the Blessings of Shri Mamleshwar. Unlike the Temple of Shri Omkareshwar Devotees are allowed to touch an hug the Presiding Deity of Shri Mamleshwar who is also known by His other Name Shri Amaleshwar.
This Temple is typical example of the Nagara Style of Architecture which features carved pillars, shikaras and intricate stone carvings. The Presiding Deity is Shri Mamleshwar or Sri Amaleshwar. Apart from the main Shrine there are various other Sub Shrines adjoining it. Maharani Ahilyabai Holkar was inspired by this Temple and developed it to a great extent. At the outset there is a West facing entrance through which Devotees can enter the Temple after climbing a few steps. Likewise there are entrances on the East and other sides too. Though this Temple has multiple entrances the main Temple of Shri Mamleshwar is West facing and Devotees may have to go through several steel barricaded railings with serpentine curves before they reach the Temple's Presiding Deity.
The Sanctum Sanctorum of the Presiding Deity of Shri Mamleshwar is West facing. Entry to this West facing Sanctum Sanctorum is through the South facing entrance. In the Sanctum Sanctorum the Presiding Deity of Shri Mamleshwar is in the form of a West facing Shivaling with a Nandhi Bhagwan looking towards Him. He is considered as a Jyotirling. There are several smaller Sub Shrines in the outer peripheral of the Temple. One such Sub Shrine is East facing and a Shivaling is seen here. Similar to this there are four more Sub Shrines and they are together considered as Shri Panchaling. Two of the Panchalingam are found in two Sub Shrines and they are known as Shri Somnath and Shri Kedarnath. The outer peripheral has another Sub Shrine in which there are Idols of Shri Ganapathy and Shri Karthikeyan. Maha Shivarathri, Shravan Month, Karthik Pournima and Makara Shankaranthi are some of the festivals that are celebrated in a grand manner.
