Sree Kailsanathar Temple is situated in a hamlet called Thandalam which is close to Kovur and Kundrathur. Though it is situated in Kanchipuram District it is on the outskirts of Chennai City and very near to Kovur in Kundrathur. The Temple has a medium sized compund wall fitted with a gate. The Temple stands  East facing bur three feet below the road level. On entering the premises we find 2 separate shrines. One for the Kailasanathar who is found as the Moolavar in the form of a Shivalingam. His Consort who is found in an adjacent Sub Shrine is known as Kamakshi Ambal. There is a Bali Peedam and a Nandhi Bhagwan opposite to the Sanctum Sanctorum. In the outer precincts Sub Shrines for Vinayagar, Valli Devasena samedha Subramaniar, Chandikeshwarar etc. are seen. It is belived that this Temple could be between 200 to 300 years old and the last Maha Kumbabishekam was performed by Jayendra Saraswathi Swamigal on 4th May 2001. They have a special shelf earmarked for lighting Oil Lamps. There is an image of 63 Nayanmaargal and another image of Naalvar dangling from the wall of Kamakshi Ambal Sub Shrine. There is an electric and a normal gong. They are maintaining a small Nandavanam too. Pradosham and Maha Shivarathri are celebrated in a grand scale by the Temple Staff with the help of local villagers.
