The Presiding Deity of this Temple is Sukreeshwarar and He is an incarnation of Sri Shiva. He Blesses His Devotees along with His Conosort Goddess Sri Aavudai Nayaki. It is believed that Sugreevar worshiped Sri Shiva here and hence the name Sukreeswarar Temple. The Temple is built facing East with an entrance in the South direction. There is a Nandhi Mandapam in which 2 Nandhi Vahanams are seen one behind the other facing the Moolasthanam. There are two Nandhis here and it is said that the Horn of one Nandhi is broken and hence it was replaced with the new one at the front. It is believed that Sri Shiva moved the new Nandhi back and brought the old one in the front as per His wish.There is a Neivedhya Peedam or Bali Peedam which can be seen on the East but there is No Dwajastambam here. Instead of the Dwajasthambam there is a Deepa Sthambam which resembles a Dwajasthambam but is not really so. This Temple has Sub Shrines for Gods and Goddesses like Sri Vinayakar, Sri Subramaniyar, Sri Chandikeswarar, Sri Vayu Lingam, Sri Kubera Lingam, Sri Bhairavar, Sri Eesanya Lingam, Sri Badra Kaliamman and Sri Surya. It is believed that this Temple has survived 4 Yugas and it is believed that this Temple is 2500 years old. This Temple is currently administered and maintained by Archaeological Survey of India.
