The Temple is actually located at the junction of Vellalar Street and Athipattu Main Road in Ambattur O.T. The full name of the Temple is Sri Kanakavalli Thaayar Samedha Sri Vinnavaraya Perumal Temple. There is no Rajagopuram but instead the Idol of Sri Vinnavaraya Perumal flanked by His Consorts are seen atop the Gopuram. There are two Garudalwar Idols on either side of the Entrance / Gopuram facing the Main Road. This is an East facing Temple and there is a small Sub Shrine of Ganapathy facing the road. On entering the Temple there is a small West facing Nagarajar Sub Shrine and another West facing Sub Shrine of Thumbikai Alwar or Vinayagar. Closeby is an Idol of a Tortoise and a Lizard and both have been painted in golden colour. There is a huge multi pillared Mandapam with a concrete roofing beneath which is a Neivedhya Peedam or a Bali Peedam, a huge Dwajasthambam or a Kodi Maram which seems to pierce the roofing and go skywards. Close to this is a Garudalwar Sannadhi which faces the Moolasthanam. Atop the Moolasthanam Mandapam there is an Idol of Sri Vinnavaraya Perumal flanked by His Consorts and beneath it is a Gajalakshmi Idol flanked by two Elephants and all these Idols are painted in Gold. The Sanctum Sanctorum is East facing and at the threshold there are two black Dwara Baalaka Idols named Jayan and Vijayan who stand guard. Close to these two Dwara Baalaka Idols is a small Sub Shrine of Sri Lakshmi Narasimhar and Sri Lakshmi Hayagreevar who are East facing. In the Moolasthanam the Presiding Deity of Sri Vinnavaraya Perumal who is considered as an incarnation of Maha Vishnu is seen East facing and in a standing posture. Sri Vinnavaraya Perumal is flanked on either side by Sri Devi and Bhoo Devi. The Urchavamoorthy Idols too are found within the same Moolasthanam. There are few Images of Sri Srinivasa  Perumal, Sri Padmavathy Thaayar and Geethopadesam in the Moolasthana Mandapam. They have also installed a Thulaabaaram for the sake of Devotees. It is believed that this Temple is more than 1000 years old and then called as Sri Kariyamanicka Perumal Temple. There was famine and the Nawab ruling this area happened to visit here and felt hungry. He was given a commoners food and was told that this was a drought hit area and the food given to him was actually the Prasadam of Sri Kariya Manicka Perumal Temple. Being a humble Nawab he did not mind in eating this food in the Temple complex but when the Nawab opened the food it dramatically changed into a super delicious food meant for the King and Rich. Realising that it was a God given miracle the Nawab said that this Perumal and the food has been sent from Heaven and therefore this Temple would be better known as Sri Vinnavaraya Perumal Temple instead of Sri Kariya Manicka Perumal Temple.

The outer peripheral has a North facing Vishnu Durgai Sub Shrine and She is seen in a standing posture. There is an East facing Shrine of Sri Kanakavalli Thaayar in a four pillared Mandapam and Devotees may have to climb 5 to 6 steps to reach this Shrine. Two coloured elephant heads placed on the sides of the steps would impress any Devotee seeing it. In the East facing Thaayar's Shrine She Kanagavalli Thaayar is seen sitting on a Lotus and the Urchavamoorthy Idol too is placed within the same Shrine. In the outer peripheral just behind the Sub Shrine of Thaayar there are three elevated podiums and on top of these are the East facing Idols of Ganapathy and Naga Devathas. There is a four pillared East facing Mandapam to the rear of the Temple where Perumal Paadham or Divine Feet has been kept. On circumambulating the Temple there is an East facing Sub Shrine of Aandal who is seen in a standing posture. Close to this Aandal's Sub Shrine is an East facing Sorga Vaasal or Paramapatha Vaasal. There are two Dwara Baalakas who stand guard to the Sorga Vaasal and on top of the Sorga Vaasal is an Idol of Pallikonda Ranganathar. There is a South facing Sub Shrine in which an Idol of Nammalwar and Ramanujar or Udayavar are seen together. Closeby is the Navagraha Sannadhi which is mounted on an elevated podium. Apart from the normal iron grill there are glass panes around the Navagraha Sannadhi as a security measure. The West facing Sub Shrine of Baktha Anjaneya Swamy is seen in a standing posture is one of the prime attraction of this Temple. There is an East facing coloured Krishna Idol seen along with Radha. A few saplings are kept around this Krishna Idol making it look so natural. Vaikunda Ekadesi, Chitthirai Brahmmaothsavam, Sri Rama Navami, Hanumath Jayanthi are some of the festivals celebrated in a grand manner.
