Vailankanni Church is located on the shores of Besant Nagar Beach. This Church is dedicated to Annai Vailankanni Our Lady of Good Health. This beautiful Church was built in the Year 1972. This Church was a Sub Shrine of St Louis Church till the year 1971. The then Bishop of Madras Rev. Dr. R.Arulappa made this Shrine as a separate Parish Church.  This Church is built for Roman Catholic Christians living in and around Besant Nagar. On 15th August 1985, a bigger Church was blessed and consecrated by Archbishop Rev. Dr R Arulappa. With the great effort of Rev. Fr. P.J. Lawrence Raj, several extensions and renovation works were made in this Shrine.  In 2001, a small Chapel for the blessed Sacrament was built. A picture depicting the miracles of Our Lady of Vailankanni of Good Health was created in the year 2002. The Mother Mary's Square and Reconciliation Chapel was constructed in the year 2003. This Church was declared as a Shrine of the Archdiocese of Madras by the Rev. Dr. AM Chinnappa SDB, Archbishop of Madras on 8th Sep. 2005. Three Mass Prayers are conducted and nearly thousands of Devotees visit this Church everyday. The Devotees visiting this Church stand all day during the Prayer to touch the feet of the Holy Mother's statue.
