This Maha Bodhi Temple is exclusively for the Buddhist but could be visited by anyone having faith in it. It is located in a very congested and narrow Kennet Lane in Egmore just opposite to the Egmore Railway Station. It is the only one of its kind in Chennai City.  This Buddhist Temple is managed by the Sri Lanka Maha Bodhi Society. Their objective is to restore all Ancient Buddhist Shrines in India. The Presiding Deity is Lord Buddha. The Buddha Idol in the ground floor is in a standing posture and is of 18 feet tall. Beneath this tall standing Buddha Statue are several other miniature Buddha Idols in various forms. All of them are kept in a huge hall of the ground floor where several people sit together Pray and Meditate. In the first floor is another huge gorgeous Idol of Buddha who is found in a reclined posture. In the two rooms adjecent to it are two more Buddha Idols in a sitting posture. This Temple complex comprises of four floors and it has facilities for out-station Devotees to come and stay. There are several Non AC and Air Condiotioned Rooms and Lift facilities is also available for the sake of Devotees who happen to visit here. There is a small shop located to the left of the main gate within the premises where Divine Pooja articles and Souveniers pertaining to Buddism is sold for a competetive price. The Festival of Vesak is celebrated in the Month of May and Cultural Programmes are held during the time. They run a free Homeopathic Clinic for the Needy. The entire Temple Administration is now under the care and control of His Holiness Chandarathana.
