The Presiding Deity of this Temple is Soumya Damodara Perumal and He is an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. He Blesses His Devotees along with His Consort Amirthavalli Thaayar. This Temple is believed to have been built in the Tenth Century by the Pallava Kings since Fish Symbols can be found on the roofs of this Temple, but anyhow there are  no official records about its origin. This Temple is located  near Villiwakkam Bus Terminus and very close to Agasteeswarar Temple. This Presiding Deity has a Scar on His stomach and it is believed that it was due to a rope tied by Yasodha.  Since Asuras were killed here this area was referred as Konnur. Hence the name Konnur High Road, which is still used in this part of Chennai.  This Temple is also called as Samhara Puri Kshetram since the Asuras downfall began here.  There are Sub Shrines for Lords Rama, Krishna, Anjaneya and Saints like Andal and Azhwars. There is a Madapalli or Temple Kitchen in this Temple. This Temple is located on the busy streets of Villivakkam. Vaikasi Bramothsavam, Chithirai Thiruvonam, Aani Thiruvonam and Krishna Jayanthi is celebrated in a grand manner in this Temple.
