The Presiding Deity of this Temple is Lord Athipureeshwarar who is an incarnation of Lord Shiva. He Blesses His Devotees along with His Consort Goddess Sri Shantha Nayagi. This Temple is built facing East and has a three tiered Rajagopuram.  Like other Temples this Temple also has a Balipeedam, Dwajasthambam and a Nandhi Mandapam in front of the Sanctum Sanctorum. The Presiding Deity is  a self manifested Swayambhu Lingam. In Koshtam, the Gods and Goddesses like Vinayagar, Dakshinamoorthy, Maha Vishnu, Brahma and Dhurgai can be seen. There is Separate Shrine for the Presiding Deity and His Consort. This Temple also has  Sub Shrines for Gods and Goddesses like Shiva, Anjaneyar, Mahaganapathy, Chandikeswarar, Vinayakar, Brahmi, Maheswari, Varahi, Raahu and Kethu, Swarna Akarshna Bhairavar, Sarabewarar, Viyaghrapathar, Navagrahas and Pathanchali. This Temple is 700 years old and the inscriptions belongs to Krishna Devaraya period. This place was initially known as Kayangonda Cholamandalathu Puliyur Kottathu Surathoor Nattu Palli Kaaranai. This Temple attracts lots of Devotees on Pradosham and Mahashivarathri days.
