Vilathikulam is in important place in Tuticorin District. The Temple of Sri Meenakshi Sundareshwarar is located in Vilathikulam on the border of Thoothukudi District. The adjoining Districts of Virudhunagar and Ramanathapuram are also situated close to this place and hence Devotees from three District come here on regular basis. The Presiding Deity is also known as Sri Chokkalinga Swamy. The Temple has a five tiered Rajagopuram with a well built Moolasthanam. Devotees may have to climb 5 to 6 steps to cross the Rajagopuram. To the left of the Rajagopuram is a Sub Shrine of Sri Ganapathy under a temporary roofing. The Temple has a well designed multi pillared Mandapam.

There is a Dwajasthambam or Kodi Maram, a Neivedhya Peedam and a Nandhi Vaahanam facing the Moolasthanam. In the Sanctum Sanctorum the Presiding Deity of Sri Sundareswarar who is also known as Sri Chokalinga Swamy is seen in the form of a Shiva Lingam and He is considered as an incarnation of God Shiva. Around the Koshtam of the Moolavar are the Idols of Ganapathy, Dhakshinamoorthy, Maha Vishnu, Brahmma, Durgai and Chandikeshwarar. The Ambal is known here as Sri Meenakshi who is an incarnation of Goddess Parvathy. She is seen in a standing posture in Her Shrine. The Temple also has a Navagraha Sannadhi. The Sthala Viruksham of the Temple are Vila Maram and Athi Maram which is close to a Pond known as Kulam in Tamil and hence the name Vila + Athi + Kulam = Vilathikulam. Like Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple this Temple also celebrates Chithirai Thiruvizha, Kanda Sasthi, Navarathri, Thiruvadhirai, Vaikasi Visakam and Makara Shakaranthi in a grand manner.
