Srivaikuntam is an important pilgrimage centre in Tuticorin District. The Presiding Deity of the Temple is called as Sri Vaikuntanatha Perumal or Sri Kallapiran Perumal. His Consort in this Temple is known as Sri Vaikuntavalli Thaayar. It is one of the Nava Tirupathi revered by Nammalwar and located on the Banks of River Thamirabarani. This Temple is also closely associated by Sun God or Surya Bhagwan. This Temple has a mammoth 9 tiered East facing Rajagopuram. There is a Neivedhya Peedam or Bali Peedam, a Dwajasthambam or Kodi Maram facing West towards the Moolasthanam. Apart from this there is another five tiered Rajagopuram. In the East facing Sanctum Sanctorum the Presiding Deity of Sri Vaikunta Natha Perumal is seen in a standing posture with Sri Mahalakshmi on His Chest. It is noteworthy to mention here that the Rays of the Sun God or Surya Bhagwan falls directly on the Moolavar Idol of Sri Vaikuntanatha Perumal for two days in April / May and October / November as a mark of respect.

The Urchavamoorthy Idol of Sri Kallapiran Swamy is seen along with Sri Devi and Bhoo Devi within the Moolasthanam. It is said that a close observation on the Cheek of the Urchavar would reveal that there is a pinch mark. It is said that during the course of sculpting the Urchavar Idol the Sculptor himself was astounded and dumbstruck to see the beauty of the Urchavar at close quarters. This made the Sculptor pinch the Urchavamoorthy idol for His sheer beauty.   

There is a Paramapatha Vaasal Rajaopuram made up of three tiers. The Prahaaram has Sub Shrines for Sri Anjaneya Swamy, Sri Narasimhar, Sri Chora Nachiyar, Sri Thiruvengadamudiyan and Sri Rama. The Thaayar Sannadhi of Sri Vaikunta Nachiyar or Sri Vaikuntavalli. A Dasavathara Sannadhi is also seen in which the Idols of 10 Avathaars are kept. This Temple consists of several multi pillared Mandapam and each of these pillars is intricately carved. The Thiruvenkatamudaiyaan Sub Shrine with its Yaali pillars is eye captivating. It is believed that this Temple was built by the Pandya King Chandrakula Pandyan. Later the Vijayanagara Rulers and the Madurai Nayaks had a big hand in promoting and developing this Temple. This Temple is another landmark Temple of Thoohtukudi District and no Devotees would ever miss coming to this Temple to offer their Prayers.
