Sadras or Sadurangapattinam is a small village bordering Kalpakkam. The Dutch ruled Sadras during the earlier times and a Fort built by them is still seen in ruins. Sri Tiruvateeswarar or Sri Tiruvareeswarar Temple is built in Sadras more than 1000 years ago. The Pandya Rulers had built this Temple initially but later it is said that the Vijayanagara  and Naayaka Rulers developed it to some extent. This Temple is built facing East towards the sea.

There is a Neivedhya Peedam or Bali Peedam, a Dwajasthambam or Kodi Maram and a Nandhi Vaahanam facing the Moolasthanam. In the East facing Sanctum Sanctorum Sri Thiruvareeswarar or Sri Thiruvateeswarar is found in the form of a Shiva Lingam and He is considered as an incarnation of Shiva. The Koshtam of the Moolavar Sannadhi has the Idols of Vinayagar, Dhakshinamoorthy, Maha Vishnu, Brahmma, Durgai and Chandikeshwarar. The Vimanam of the Moolasthanam is of two tiers and is called as Vesara Vimanam.

Close to the Moolasthanam is a South facing Ambal’s Shrine. The Ambal is known as Sri Thiruvateeswari and She is seen in a standing posture in Her South facing Shrine. There are Sub Shrines for Natarajar with Sivagami Ambal, Vinayagar, Nalvar and Valli Devasena Samedha Subramaniyar. The Temple also has Sub Shrines for Surya Bhagwan, Naga Devathas and Bhairavar. A Navagraha Sannadhi too is seen. Few local Devotees come to this Temple. Instead Touristss who come to Mahabalipuram and Kalpakkam come here to see this Temple. Thaipoosam, Panguni Brahmmothsavam, Pradosham, Maha Shivarathiri, Thei Pirai Ashtami, Panchami are the festivals that are celebrated in a grand manner.
