  • Sri Devanathaswamy Temple, Thiruvanthipuram, Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu

Sri Devanathaswamy Temple is located in Thiruvahindrapuram or Thiruvanthipuram in Cuddalore Town. This Temple is situated on the Banks of River Kedilam. The Temple has a five tiered Rajagopuram. Facing the Moolasthanam is a Dwajasthamabam or Kodi Maram, a Neivedhya Peedam or Bali Peedam and a Garudalwar Sannadhi. The Presiding Deity of this Temple is Sri Devanatha Perumal and He is an incarnation of Sri Maha Vishnu. He Blesses His Devotees along with His Consort Goddess Hemabujavalli. In the East facing Sanctum Sanctorum Sri Devanatha Perumal is seen in a standing posture flanked by His Consorts Sri Devi and Bhoo Devi. The Temple has Sub Shrines for Sri Ramar and Sri Vedantha Desigar. It is said that Sri Vedantha Desigar had lived here and did Seva for this Temple for around 40 years. Though the Presiding Deity of this Temple is Sri Devanatha Swamy,  Sri Hayagrivar is also considered as equally important. The Shrine of Sri Hayagreevar is located on an opposite hill. This is the only Temple in South India to have a Shrine for Sri Hayagreevar. The Urchavamoorthy is called as Moovarahiya Oruvan which implies to Brahmma, Maha Vishnu and Shivan. The other important aspect of this Temple is that Indran is said to have obtained the Vajrayudham from Maha Vishnu at this place in order to fight the Demons and vanquish them. This Temple is one of the 108 Divya Desam that is dedicated to Maha Vishnu. It is believed that this Temple was built by Chola Kings and was later developed by Pandyas, Hoysala and Vijayanagara Kings. This Temple follows Vadakalai style of Tradition. Chittarai Brahmmotsavom Masi Mahotsavam are celebrated in a grand manner. This is the Prathana Sthalam for Goog Higher Education. Even students of IITs and Medical Colleges across the Country come to this Temple to seek the Blessings of Sri Devanatha Swamy and Sri Hayagreevar.
