Harikanyaka Temple is located in Ariyannur nestled between Thrissur and Guruvayur. The Temple is not on the main road but located in the interior of a residential locality in Ariyannur. This Temple is dedicated to Goddess Bhagawathi whom many consider as an incarnation of Goddess Durga. It is one of the ancient Maha Kshethrams of Kerala. There is a general belief that Maha Vishnu had taken the Avathar of Kanyaka or Mohini here and hence the name Harikanyaka Devi. It is believed that Goddess Mohini or Harikanyaka is the Mother of Lord Ayyappan. In ancient times it was the head of 32 sorrounding Kshethrams. Many elders through their experience reveal that in ancient times this Temple was much more wealthier than even the Guruvayurappan Temple in Guruvayur. The Presiding Deity is the virgin form of Lord Maha Vishnu and She is known as Mohini. This Temple is built in a splendid manner due to the craftsmanship of renowned architect Perumthachan. The Temple is the replica of the Kerala Architecture with lots of wood work and black stones used wherever possible. This Temple is built in an elevated place and Devotees could reach it by a sloping ramp or steps. This is an East facing Temple and there is a multi pillared mandapam. The Presiding Deity is East facing and looks magnificent and resplendent. The entire inner peripheral along with the Sanctum Sanctorum has been lit with Ghee Lamps. There is a Sub Shrine for Ganapathy in the inner peripheral itself. A Madapalli or a Temple Kitchen along with a Well is found in the inner peripheral. There is a Saraswathy Mandapam built in the outer peripheral. Divine functions and rituals could be conducted here and several Devotees could be seated at the same time. During Saraswathi Pooja Kids are brought here and Aksharabhyasam are done here in great numbers. It is widely believed that those Devotees who are willing to get married would be obliged with their Prayers if they come here and Pray to Goddess Harikanyaka Devi. There is a Sub Shrine for Goddess Bhadrakali at the rear end of the Temple in the outer peripheral. Devotees could avail the Thulabaaram facilities in the Harikanyaka Temple. The Temple has facilities to light up and illuminate Ghee Lamps all over its outer wall and when this is done is a treat to watch for the Devotees since the entire Temple looks dazzling. The Temple has a well maintained lawn with several plants and trees. Devotees who come to Guruvayur should never miss this Temple since it is said to be more than 1500 years old but still maintained so well. The 15 day celebration during March April attracts a lots of Devotees not only from Ariyannur and Guruvayur but from far flung places too. This Temple is unique since it is the only solitary Temple for Goddess Mohini.
