Sree Parthasarathi Temple is situated in a place called Kuppaayil on the Railway Station Road in the Temple Town of Guruvayoor. Since its proximity is very close to Sri Guruvayuruappan Temple most Devotees visiting Guruvayur do not fail to come here and Pray before Sri Parthasarathy who is the Presiding Deity. This is a East facing Temple and it is dedicated to Sri Krishna who is worshipped here as Sri Parthasarathi who was the Charioteer of Arjuna during the Epic Battle of Mahabharatha. The Temple has a roofed outer area in which a seven layered stone lamp has been kept.
The Presiding Deity of Sri Parthasarathy was brought and placed in the Sanctum Sanctorum by Sri Adhi Sankaracharya. This Temple speaks for the architectural beauty and the craftsmanship of the workmen who had built this Temple in a great manner. There are fine and intricate wooden carving at different places which attracts the eyes of any Devotees visiting this Temple. The vibral paintings found on the outer walls of the Temple near the entrance and also within the Temple is a real treat to the eyes of the Devotees. The ceiling of the Temple too has images painted in different colours. The Sanctum Sanctorum resembles as though it is placed on a Chariot driven by Horses. The Presiding Deity of Sri Parthasarathy looks resplendent, majestic and He is seen in a standing posture holding a Lotus and Chakra.
The inner peripheral of the Temple has a Sub Shrine for Sri Vinayaga or Sri Ganesan. There is a separate Sub Shrine remembering Sri Adhi Sankaracharya who had brought the Presiding Deity here. Sri Krishna and His disciple Arjuna share a Sub Shrine in which their colourful Idols are kept. There is an exclusive Sub Shrine for Sri Iyyappan and He attracts a lot of Devotees. The Temple's daily ritual starts with a Gho Pooja and Devotees can partake in it paying a sum of Rs.100/- The Temple has a Madapalli or a Temple Kitchen and Prasadams are given to most Devotees coming here. The Temple also maintains a Ghoshala which is well maintained. There is ample car parking space available adjacent to the Temple. This Temple follows a strict dress code wherein it is mandatory for Males to wear a Mundu or a Dhoti and to remain bare chested.
Devotees visiting Temples in Kerala must remember that all the Hindu Temples in Kerala open very early and they also close early during the forenoon. Hence Devotees are advised to check with the Temple Timings before their visit. Similarly the Attire or Dress Code for the Males in most Temples are Dhoti or Veshti and their upper wear like Shirt, Baniyan etc have to be removed but they can wear a Shawl instead. Ladies are advised either to wear a Saree or Salwar Kameez along with a Shawl or Dhupatta.
