In earlier times Mammiyur was called as Mahimaiyur because it was thought that the Mahimai or Fame of Mahadeva was spreading through here. Mammiyoor Sri Mahadeva Temple is situated on the Perumpilavil Road in Guruvayur. This Temple is under the care of Mummiyur Mahadeva Devaswom Trustee Board. The Temple has a huge name board on the main road and there is a Baggage and Cloak Room outside the Temple. To the right of the Temple is a black resplendent Idol of Lord Vinayaga. The Temple has a huge tin sheet roofing with a place earmarked for Devotees to sit. It is built of multiple pillars and each of them are embossed with Divine sculptures. Just before entering the Main Temple there are two Peepal Tree with a cemented Podium built around it. Several Brass oil lamps of different sizes are lit all around the Temple premises. There is a Bali Peedam and a Nandhi Idol facing towards the West. Both the Bali Peedam and the Nandhi Bhagwan are made out of Panchalogam. This Temple is considered as a powerful combination of Guru and Vaayu Sthalam. The Presiding Deity is Sri Mahadeva who is East facing and He is considered as an incarnation of Lord Shiva. Close to the Main Shrine is a Sub Shrine where Lord Iyyappan is found along with Murugan and Ganapathy. Lord Maha Vishnu is seen occupying a Shrine. To the rear of the Main Shrine is an Amman Image where Devotees offer Sarees to the Deity as a mark of their respect. There is a West facing Bhagawathi Amman Idol and She is considered as an Omnipotent Goddess. Close to it are the Idols of Ganapathy and Naga Devathas. The Temple office functions from within the Temple. Hundi facilities are available at a few places. There is a huge Thulabaaram and Devotees can Pray and avail the Thulabaara facilities. The Temple also has a small West facing stage where Song, Dance and other Divine Rituals could be held. It is said that a visit to Guruvayurappan Temple is not complete unless and until the Devotee visits Mammiyur Sri Mahadeva Temple. Since the Temple is located on the main road Devotees may have to struggle to park their vehicles. Shivarathri, Margazhi Thiruvadhirai, Mandala Pooja, Vinayagar Chathurthi, Navarathri, Shasti, Ashtami, Rohini and Vishu are some of the festivals are celebrated in this Temple with much fanfare.
