Sri Nagaraja Temple in Haripad is also called as Mannarsala Temple. It is an ancient and renowned Temple which is well known globally. It is nestled in a dense forestry in Alappuzha District of Kerala. The Temple has around 1 Lakh Idols of different Snakes or Nagaraja and even the pathway leading to the Temple is full of live Snakes. It is believed that Lord Parasurama had a big hand in building this Temple. It is said that Lord Nagaraja appeared here before Sage Parasurama showing him His Divine presence. It is said that this Temple is a Thritha Sthala which includes Brahmma, Vishnu and Shivan. The Presiding Deity of his Temple is Sri Nagaraja in the form of Brahmma, Vishnu and Shivan. The Consort of the Presiding Deity of Sri Nagaraja is known here as Sri Sarpayakshiamma and She has a separate Sub Shrine on the Northern side of the Temple. The other Consort of Sri Nagaraja is known as Nagayakshiamma. The sister of Sri Nagaraja is known as Sri Nagachamundiamma. The Mother of God Nagaraja is known as Mannarsala Amma and She gains a lot of importance. Deities of Durga and certain other Goddesses are installed at other places. Even till this date the Temple is well maintained and well looked after by the Mannarsala Sree Nagaraja Kshethram Trust which includes the family members. Devotees who are Childless are set to be Blessed with a Kid no sooner they visit this Temple. Such Devotees who are Blessed with a Kid make it a point to visit this Temple the second time in succession and offer Gold Coin or Gold Jewel along with Rice, Milk and Turmeric to show their gratitude and reverence towards Lord Nagaraja. It is one of the rarest of rare Temples where the Temple Rituals are conducted by Priestess of Mannarsala or in other words the Pooja is done by a Brahmin Lady instead of the ususal Male Brahmin Priest. The Annual Temple festival Ayilyam is celebrated in a grand manner when thousands of Devotees not only from India but also from other parts of the world visit this Temple in order to show their respect to Lord Nagaraja. Likewise Shivarathri too is followed with great fanfare. Videos and Photography are not allowed. Wearing of Sarees and Dhoti or Veshti is a must for the Female and Male Devotees.
