This Temple is one of the ancient Temples of Kerala. The Presiding Deity of this Temple is also considered as the Family God of the Cochin Royal Family. There is a frim belief that the King Cheramam Perumal visited the Kailayas from this Temple premises along with his friend and companion Sundaramoorthy Nayanar. An Inscription is also found in the Temple which clearly mentions that the Namaskara Mandabams and certain other important places of this Temple were vadalized and smashed by the Dutch but was later renovated by Paliyath Govindan Achan who was the then Chief Minsiter of the Cochin Kingdom. This Temple is built by following the typical Kerala Style of Architecture. It also has beautiful murals depicting all Hindu Mythology. Vaisaka Pournami Brahmmothsavam is the annual 10-day festival which is celebrated in a grand way. Special poojas are also performed during many Hindu festivals and on auspicious days. This Temple is under the care and custody of The Archaeological Survey of India and the Cochin Devaswom Board.
Devotees visiting Temples in Kerala must remember that all the Hindu Temples in Kerala open very early and they also close early during the forenoon.
