Sri Sugavaneswara Swamy Temple is located in a busy Mettu Agraharam near the Old Bus Stand. Many believe that this Temple construction was started during King Sundara Pandiyan's period. This Temple gains prominence since Saint Suga Brahmmarishi perfom Penance here. It is one of the five rare Shiva Sthalams to have come up on the banks of River Manimuthar. There is a South facing Welcome Arch in the busy and congested locality leading to the Temple. Beyond it is a four pillared Mandapam and a Sub Shrine for Kurumba Vinayagar. The Temple has a three tiered East facing Rajagopuram. At the outset there are two stone Dwajasthamabams. One is smaller and has a Vinayagar Vigraham beneath it whereas the other Dwajasthambam is a taller one. There is a huge Nadhi Vaahanam facing the Moolasthanam. The Temple has a South facing Ambal Sannadhi with two Dwara Baalakis on guard at the threshold of Her Sub Shrine. The Ambal has different name such as Thiruchempon Nayagi, Swarnabigai etc. Opposite to the Moolasthanam is a metallic Bali Peedam and the Dwajasthamabam seems to pierce the roof and head skywards. The Nandhikeshwarar Idol facing the Moolasthanam is an added attraction. At the threshold of the Moolasthanam are two Dwara Balakas. In the Mandapam next to it have the Idols of Sri Nagaar, Sri Vikada Chakra Ganapathy, Sri Veda Vyasar, Sri Siva Bakthar, Sri Anjaneyar, Suga Brahmma Rishi etc. The Presiding Deity is Sri Sugavaneswarar who is East facing and in the form of a Shiva Lingam. The Shiva Lingam here is supposed to have a scar caused by a hunter's arrow who aimed it at Sage Suga Brahmma Rishi mistaking Him to be a Parrot. Idols of Somaskandar, Natarajar, Pillayar etc are seen close to the Moolasthanam. The outer peripheral of the Temple has Idols of the 63 Naayanmaars and next to them are the Naalvar Sannadhi, Sapthamathas Irattai Pillayar, Iyyappan, Kasi Viswanathar Mandapam, Sahasra Lingam, Sarawathi. Around the Koshtam of the Moolasthanam are Nirutha Ganapathy, Dakshinamoorthy, Lingothbhavar, Brahmma, Chandikeshwarar and Swarna Durgai. The outer peripheral has a East facing Sub Shrine for Sugavana Subramaniyar who is seen along with Valli and Devasena. Around this Sub Shrine they have constructed an Arupadai Veedu. Next to it are the Idols for Gajalakshmi, Jeshta Devi Sheerapa Ganapathy, Kaala Bhairavar, Surya Bhagwan and Chandran. The Temple has a Madapalli and distributes Prasadam to the Devotees. It also has a Temple book stall catering to the needs of avid readers. The Temple Tank or Pushkarani located opposite to the Rajagopuram is an added beauty. The Sthala Viruksham of the Temple is Vilwa Maram. Aippasi Annabishegam, Arudhra Dharisanam, Masi Magam, Pradhosham, Navarathri are some of the festivals are celebrated in a grand manner.
