In the earler times Vasanteeswarar Temple was found on the banks of River Sarabhanga along with Sri Vijayaraghava Perumal and Sri Kottai Mariamman Temple. The chain of wars that took place between 1641 and 1768 took heavy toll of these Temples. Sage Sarabhanga  lived here and had conducted countless number of Homams due to which this  area was called as Homalur. Later it  got renamed and people called it as Omalur. The Presiding Deity of this Temple is Sri Vasantheeswarar who is an incarnation of  God Shiva. This Temple is located in a very remote area of Omalur and the Temple is East facing with a solitary Praharam. Devotees could enter this Temple through a small gate on the Eastern side. Surya Bhagavan is seen mounted on his Chariot with His Consorts. There are Sub Shrines for Navagrahas, Niruthi Vinayakar, Ayyappa, Naagar, Murugan with His Consorts Valli and Devanai and Pancha Bootha Lingams. Goddess Abithakusalambigai occupies a separate Sub Shrine. A very small River Sarabanga sub divides and flows on the East and West of this Temple. Sarabanga Maharishi was believed to have lived here and this Temple is believed to have been built on the grave of  this great Sage. The Sthala Viruksham is a Vanni Maram  and the Theertham is River Sarabhanga.  The Temple has undergone a white wash and painting very recently. Since Panchaboodha Lingam is found here this place is considered on par with Kanchipuram, Thiruvaanaikaval, Thiruvannamalai  Sri Kaalahasthi and Chidambaram  and is called as Pancha Boodha Sthalam.
