Mecheri is an important place located between Salem and Mettur Dam in Salem District. The Presiding Deity of this Temple is Goddess Badrakali Amman. This Temple was built around 800 years ago by the then local Kings of Salem. This Temple is surrounded by lush green grass and many other beautiful ponds. This Temple is built facing North and it is located in the heart of Mecheri near Dharmapuri Highway. It has a three Rajagopurams out of which the main Rajagopuram is the tallest and is seven tiered. This Temple also has wide corridors and many huge Mandapams. It is considered as one of the largest Amman Temple in entire Tamil Nadu. 

The walls of the Maha Mandabam has intricate and beautiful sculptures engraved on it and they are as follows Sri Nardhana Ganapathi, Valli Devasena Samedha Sri Murugan, Naga Devathas, Sri Ashtalakshmi, Sri Thillai Natarajar and Sri Meenakshi Amman. On every New Moon Days nearly fifty thousand Devotees visit this Temple in order to get the Blessings of Goddess Badhrakali Amman since New Moon Days are considered to be very auspicious for Badrakaali Amman. Special Poojas are conducted on every Tuesdays and Fridays. The Temple has a Temple Kitchen or Madapalli for poor feeding etc.There is an Annadhanam facility here in this Temple every day and they offer free lunch to all poor people visiting this Temple. This Temple celebrates Aadi  Fridays, Deepavali, Chithirai, Karthigai Deepam, and Navarathri festivals in a grand manner thereby attracting an overwhelming number of Devotees from far and near.
