Arulmigu Kallazhagar Kovil is also called as Sundararaja Perumal Temple and it is located Azhagar Kovil close to Madurai. There is a huge Welcome Arch which leads to this Temple. At the outset there is a small South facing Anjaneya Swamy Sub Shrine and Devotees may have to Pray here and then buy a ticket after which they are allowed to Pray before the 18 Padi Karuppana Swamy. It is customary here for any Devotee to Pray this 18 Padi Karuppana Swami before entering the Kallazhagar Temple. There are several Sickles or Veechu Aruvaal kept all around the Temple. Close to this there are two multi pillared Mandapams known as Kondappa Naicker Hall and Amuthar Hall.
The Kallazhagar Temple has a huge seven tiered East facing Rajagopuram. Devotees are not allowed to enter through this Rajagopuram. Instead Devotees are allowed through a gate known as Periya Vaachan Gate. There are two Images of Garudalwar and Anjaneya Swamy drawn on either side of the gate. On entering the Temple premises there is a Spiritual Book Stall, a Granary known as Lakshmana Granary and Rows of Holy Water Tap known as Noopura Gangai. There is a Cookery Hall for making Prasadams and another Prasada Counter. Close to the Rajagopuram is a four pillared Mandapam known as Uriyadi Hall and opposite to this is a hexagonal Govardhana Fountain which resembles a mini park in which the Flute playing Idol of Krishna is mounted on a Cow beneath the Vanni Tree. To the rear of the Govardhana Fountain is an East facing multi pillared Sri Kallalagar Thirukovil Thiru Kalyana Mandapam. There is another East facing four pillared Mandapam which is known as Aadi Festival Sesha Vaahana Hall. To the rear of this is a small East facing Sub Shrine of Sri Krishna. Devotees may have to proceed to the Moolasthanam through the East facing Thondaiman Tower. There are several multi pillared Mandapams with intricately designed carvings and Idols embossed on these pillars. There are two huge black Dwara Baalakas who stand guard on either side. Close to this is the Thulaabaaram for the sake of the Devotees. Elderly and Sick Devotees may find it cumbersome to climb to steep and irregular stairs leading to the Moolasthanam. There is a Dwajasthambam, a Neivedhya Peedam and a West facing Garudalwar Sannadhi. Devotees may have to wade through several serpantine steel railings and reach the Aryan Mandapam. There are two more Dwara Baalakas who stand guard here. At the threshold of the Sanctum Sanctorum there are two Bronze Dwara Baalakas. In the Moolasthanam Sri Kallazhagar who is also known as Sri Sundararaja Perumal is seen East facing. The Presiding Deity of Sri Sundararaja Perumal is flanked on either side by His Consorts Sri Devi and Bhoo Devi. The Peedam or the base of the Artha Mandapam is made out of a single stone and hence it is called as Otraikal Mandapam. Close to the Moolasthanam are the Sub Shrines of Thumbikai Alwar and Kshethra Baalagar. This Temple has a Paramapadha Vaasal. The Sub Shrine of Saraswathi and Yaaga Saalai are located close to each other. In another enclosure all the 10 Idols of the Dasavatharam could be seen. Devotees may have to climb around 10 more steps to reach the South facing Sub Shrine of Sri Mettu Krishnan Sannadhi. Around the Mettu Krishnan Sannadhi is the sliding collection counter for the Nava Dhanyam. These Nava Dhanyam could be sent to its collection point through the sliding facilities.To the left of the Dwajasthambam are the Sub Shrine for the Alwars.
The Consort of Sri Sundararaja Perumal is known as Sri Kalyana Sundaravalli Thaayar and She is seen in an East facing multi pillared Shrine. There are two black Dwara Baalakis Idols who stand guard before the Shrine of Sri Kalyana Sundaravalli Thaayar. Devotees may have to climb 4 steps to reach the Thaayar's Shrine and all these four steps are gold plated.
Devotees may have to climb 4 more steps which are also gold plated to reach the Sub Shrine of Sri Chakkrathalwar. To His rear is Yoga Narasimhar but this Sub Shrine could not be circumambulated. Instead Devotees can view the Idol of Yoga Narasimhar kept on the rear side through a mirror which is available there. This Temple has facilities for the Palliyarai. There are Sub Shrines for Yoga Narasimhar, Lakshmi Narasimhar, Lakshmi Narayanan, Andal Rangamannar, Parthasarathy and few Naga Devathas. There is an East facing Aandal Sub Shrine wherein She is seen in a standing posture. Devotees may have to climb four gold plated steps to reach the Aandal's Shrine. There are two Dwara Baalakis Idols who stand guard before the Sub Shrine of Andal. Close to this are the Shrines of Venugopalan, who is flanked by Rukmani and Sathyabama, Hayagreevar, Mandooga Maharishi and Thirumalai Andaar. Vishwaroopa Krishnar is seen in a seperate Sub Shrine. Most of the Temple Vaahanams like Golden Palanquin, Yaanai, Kuthirai, Hanumar, Simha, Annam, Garudar and Sesha Vaahanam are stacked in the Hall meant for Vaahanams. In the outer peripheral there is an exclusive Sub Shrine for Sri Ramar who is seen along with Seetha, Lakshmana and Anjaneya Swamy. Facing this is a four pillared Mandapam in which the Simha Vaahanam and Horse Vaahanam are decorated and made ready for the Aadi festival. The outer peripheral has a North facing multi pillared Sub Shrine in which the Idols of Sri Udayavar Ramanujar and Koorathalwar are seen.
A Huge Annadhana Koodam with modern facilities could be seen and this caters to the need of the Devotees from 8 AM to 6 PM. Next to this is a Ghoshala or a Pasumadam. There are several shops selling various Divine and Pooja Articles. The Sthala Viruksham of this Temple is known as Sandhana Maram and the Sacred Tank is known as Pavithra Pushkarani. It is a recently renovated Pushkarani but the water in it looks filthy and stagnated for a long time. There is a huge Temple Chariot which has been enclosed and there are steps to reach this Temple Chariot. The Temple has Rest Room facilities for the Devotees to relax. Cloak Room facities is also available to safe guard the luggages of the Devotees. There are Wheel Chair facilities for the sick and elderly. Mothers feeding room is available at a few places within the Temple complex. Water points with a tap facilities are available for the Devotees to quench their thrist. The Temple has enormous Vehicular Parking where Cars, Autos, Bus etc could be parked at different parking slots with effortless ease. Every year Float Festival, Chithirai Thiruvizha, Vaikunda Ekadesi are celebrated in a grand manner during these festival times lakhs of Devotees visit this Temple in order to get the Blessings of Maha Vishnu.
