This Temple is known as Poonga Murugan Temple or Park Murugan Temple. It is located in a busy Rajaji Park area of Thallakulam in Madurai city. There are actually two entrances to reach the Temple premises. The main entrance is a North facing seven tiered Rajgopuram and the second entrance through an East facing gate which has a small Welcome Arch depicting the replicas of the Arupadai Veedu. On entering the Temple through the North facing Rajagopuram there is a small Dwajasthambam or Kodimaram along with a Neivedhya Peedam. The Gopuram beyond it portrays various Divine Idols inclusing that of Murugan and Ganapathy. The Maha Mandapam consists of four important Shrines which are all North facing. At the extreme left Swamy Ayyappan's Idol could be seen atop the 18 Divine Steps. The second Sannadhi from the left is that of Maha Ganapathy who is of prime importance. In the third Sannadhi the Urchavamoorthy Idol of the 6 faced Subramaniyar is seen flanked by His Consorts Valli and Devasena. The fourth Shrine is the Sanctum Sanctorum wherein the solitary Presiding Deity of Sri Bala Dhandayuthapani is seen in a standing posture.

Close to the Moolasthanam is a West facing Anjaneyar Sannadhi and an East facing Sannadhi of Sri Parasakthi. There are North facing Sub Shrines for Sri Raja Veerabadrar and Sri Idumban. To the rear of these is a Sasthi Mandapam where Divine Rituals and other private functions to be held. Next to this is an enclosure where the Temple's Golden Chariot is safely enclosed. There is a East facing Sub Shrine for Kirupanandha Variar who is a well known Muruga Bhakthar. Close to this Sub Shrine is the Thirumuruga Kripanandha Variar Sasthi Mandapam in which the Temple's Divine functions could be held. To the rear of the Moolavar Sannadhi is a South facing Sub Shrine of Aadhi Guru Dhakshinamoorthy who is seen sitting beneath a Kallaala Maram. The Temple has a North facing Sub Shrines for Saraswathi and Durgambikai. It is very unique to notice that the Sub Shrine of Mahalakshmi faces North East and is seen in a sitting posture. Close to the Mahalakshmi Sub Shrine is an East facing tiled Sub Shrine for Sri Mangalanathar who is seen here in the form of a Shiva Lingam. The tiles wall of this Sub Shrine depicts an Image of Shiva, Parvathy and Ganapathy.

To the rear of the Temple is a Dhyana Mandapam or Meditation Hall known as Siddhargal Koodam. There are two rows of 18 Siddhars Idol kept here. The rear row consists of the Idols of Idaikaadar, Sattainathar, Konganar, Pathanjali, Kuthambai Siddhar, Paambaati Siddhar, Sundranandar, Karuvuraar and Vaanmeegar. In the front row the Idols of the following Siddhars are found viz. Dhanvanthri, Korakkar, Kamalamuni, Machamuni, Thirumoolar, Ramadevar, Agasthiyar, Bhogar and Sivavaakiya Siddhar. There is another East facing Sub Shrine of Sarguru Shanmuga Sai in which an Idol of Sai Baba is displayed. To the left af the Dwajasthambam is an Arasa Maram beneath which a few Naga Devatha Idols are kept. Close to this is a Navagraha Sannadhi. Devotees can buy various Seva tickets from a South facing Seva counter located here. Another added attraction of this Temple is the South facing Sub Shrine of Kaala Bhairavar before which two Idols of a Galloping Horse could be seen. Though the Temple is small its location is very important since it is situated in the heart of Madurai City. The Temple has to be complimented since it has been maintained spick and span. Many Devotees seek this Temple for conducting Marriages. Festivals like Maha Shivarathri, Pradosham, Kanda Sasthi, Karthikai, Thai Poosam and Navarathri are celebrated in a grand manner. This Temple is growing by leaps and bounds due to its fame and popularity. It is considered as an important Temple since it is construed as a Raahu Kethu Nivarthi Sthalam.
