Thirumohur in ancient days was called as Mohanapuram or Mohana Kshethram. This is one of the 108 Divya Desam dedicated to Maha Vishnu and is considered to be more than 2000 years old. Sri Kalamegha Perumal Temple in Thirumogur has a South facing Welcome Arch. This Temple in Thirumogoor has a five tiered East facing Rajagopuram. The view of the Rajagopuram is partially hindered due to the multi pillared Mandapam before it and due to the temporary tin sheet roofing. On entering the Temple in Thirumohoor there is a Seva Counter to the left aand a Prasada Stall to the right. Beyond these is a Dwajasthambam or Kodimaram and a Neivedhya Peedam or Bali Peedam. A Thulabaara facility is available here for the sake of the Devotees. Close to this is a spiritual Book Stall of the Temple. Those Devotees who wish to proceed to the Moolasthanam may have to circumambulate and climb a few steps to reach the level of the Temple. Facing the Moolasthanam is a Garudalwar Sannadhi. At the entrance of the Sanctum Sanctorum there are two huge Idols of the Dwara Baalakas who stand guard here. In the Sanctum Sanctorum Sri Kalamegha Perumal is seen in a sitting posture facing East and He is flanked is His Consorts Sri Devi and Bhoo Devi. The Urchavamoorthy Idol of Sri Kalamegha Perumal and His Consorts are found within the same Moolasthanam. To the left of the Moolasthanam is a multi pillared corridor in which the Idols of Thirukachi Nambigal, Udayavar Ramanujar, Koorathalwar, Pillailogachariar and Manavaala Maamunigal are kept North facing. Likewise Idols of Poigaialwar, Boothathalwar, Peialwar, Nammalwar, Thirumangaialwar, Kulasekaraalwar, Periyaalwar, Thondaradipodialwar, Thirupaanalwar and Madhurakavialwar too are North facing.

The Consort of Sri Kalamegha Perumal is known as Sri Mohanavalli Thaayar or Thirumohurvalli Thaayar. Devotees may have to climb a few steps to reach the Shrine of the Thaayar. Sri Kalamegha Perumal disguised Himself as Mohini and hence due to this Mohanavalli Thaayar is revered here as Padi Thaanda Pathini. Mohanavalli Thaayar is seen in a sitting posture facing Eastwards. The Urchavamoorthy Idol of Mohanavalli Thaayar too is found within the same Shrine. It is important to note here this Padi Thaanda Pathini Thaayar does not come out of Her Shrine for any reasons whatsoever.

To the rear of the Thaayar Sannadhi is an East facing Sub Shrine for Chakkarathalwar and Gaja Vinayagar and Adhi Seshan ae found to the left and right of the entrance here. Sri Chakkarathalwar looks resplendent holding 16 various weapons in His 16 hands. To the back of the Chakkarathwar is another West facing Idol of Yoga Narasimhar and He is known here as Narasimha Sudharshanan. In the multi pillared corridor to the rear of the Moolasthanam several Vaahanams of the Temple are stacked and kept in a disorderly way. There is a East facing Aandal Sub Shrine and She is also known here as Aandal Nachiyar. The Temple has a South facing Sub Shrine for Navaneetha Krishnan in the outer peripheral. Close to the Dwajasthambam is a South facing Sub Shrine for Sri Ranaganathar. Devotees may have to climb a few steps to reach the Sub Shrine of Sri Ranganathar who is also known as Pallikonda Perumal. Anjaneya Swamy is seen in His North facing Sub Shrine which is just outside the Temple's peripheral. The Temple has a Madapalli and a Annadhana Koodam. The Sthala Viruksham of the Temple is a Vilva Maram and the Sacred Tank is known as Ksheerapthi Theertham. The ten day Vaikasi Brammothsavam, Vaikunda Ekadesi, Gajendra Moksham, Panguni Thirukalyanam, Krishna Jayanthi are celebrated in a grand manner.

Note: Opposite to Sri Kalamegha Perumal Temple there is yet another very small Temple which Devotees coming to Thirumohur must not miss. This is a very small Temple with a coloured Gopuram. There are two West facing Shrines in this Temple. In the first Shrine are the Idols of Sri Kothanda Ramar, Seetha, Lakshmanar and Hanuman. There are two Dwara Baalaka Idols who stand guard before this Kothanda Ramar's Shrine. Adjacent to this is a Sri Lakshmi Narasimhar's Shrine in which He Blesses His Devotees under an Aadhi Seshan. Devotees who visit these Shrines along with the Kalamegha Perumal Temple would have a sense of fullness in seeing all the Temples in Thirumohur.
