Thirukoodalaiathoor is also known as Thirukodoolaiyatrur and it is located near Chidambaram in Cuddalore District. This Temple is located on the confluence of River Vennaru and Manimutharu. This Temple complex has been built on a sprawling half an acre of land.  All the Shrines of this Temple is surrounded by a granite wall. The original Temple complex was built by the Chola Kings and the current Temple complex was developed during Nayak's Rule around the 16th century. This Temple is considered as 35th Thevara Paadal Petra Sthalam. Sri Murugan of this Temple has been praised in Thirupugazh by Arunagirinathar.

The Temple has a 3 tiered Rajagopuram but surprisingly but there is no Dwajasthambam or Kodi Maram. The Presiding Deity of this Temple is Sri Narthana Vallabeshwarar who is an incarnation of Sri Shiva. He Blesses His Devotees along with His Consort Goddess Gnanasakthi or Sri Parasakthi. Sri Narthana Vallabeswarar is also known as Sri Nerikattu Nathar. Likewise Goddess Gnanasakthi or Goddess Parasakthi is known as Sri Purikuzhal Nayagi. The Presiding Deity is a Self Manifested Swayambhu Lingam. Generally most of the Shiva Temples has a Shrine for one Goddess. Surprisingly this Temple has two Shrines, one for Goddess Gnansakthi and the other Shrine is meant for Goddess Parasakthi. There are Sub Shrines for Sri Kasi Viswanathar,Sri Amudha Vinayagar, Valli Devasena Samedha Sri Subramaniyar, Sri Natarajar, Sri Dhakshinamoorthy, Sri Kaala Bhairavar, Sri Lingothbhavar, Sri Brahmma, Maha Vishnu, Sri Bhairavar, Sri Chandran, Sri Suryan, Sri Chandikeshwarar, Naalvar and Goddess Ashtabuja Durgai. The Temple does not have a Navagraha Sannadhi but instead there is a Sub Shrine for Sri Sani Bhagwan. Sage Agasthiyar too has a Sub Shrine. The Sthala Viruksham is a Banyan Tree or Kallala Maram and the Theertham or Pushkarani is known as Brahmma Theertham, Agasthiya Theertham, Karthiyayana Theertham, Vellaru, Manimutharu, Agaya Gangai and Sangama Theertham. Brahmmothsavam during the day of the Magam is the most prominent festival of this Temple. It is believed that Devotees who come to this Temple and Pray are Blessed with immense Wisdom and Knowledge.
