The Presiding Deity of this Temple is Sri Vaithyanadha Swamy or Vaidyanadhar who is an incarnation of God Shiva. He Blesses His Devotees along with His Consort Goddess Thaiyal Nayaki Ambal. The Presiding Deity is believed to cure all the ailments of the Devotees visiting this Temple and hence the name Sri Vaitheeswaran where Vaithi denotes Doctor and Easwaran denotes God Himself. Devotees could see Sri Thaiyal Nayaki Ambal inside the Sanctum Sanctorum standing and holding a pot filled with Sanjeevi Thailam. Devotees offer Pepper and Salt to God Shiva to get their wishes fulfilled through Him.

This is an East facing Temple with a five tiered Rajagopuram. There are two Dwajasthambams made of Gold and Silver, a Neivedhya Peedam or Bali Peedam and a Nandhi Vaahanam looking towards the Moolasthanam. Just before the Sanctum Sanctorum are two huge Dwara Baalaka Idols along with Jatayu. In the Sanctum Sanctorum the Presiding Deity who is known as Sri Vaitheeswaran or Sri Vaidhyanatha Swamy is East facing and in the form of a Swayambhu Shiva Lingam. A smaller looking Maragadha Lingam too is seen there along with the Presiding Deity. The Consort is known as Sri Thaiyal Nayagi Ambal who is seen in Her East facing Shrine in a standing posture with a Thailam pot. There are Paintings of Vinayagar, Chella Muthukumara Swamy, Aadipoora Amman and Ashtalakshmi on the wall. Sri Gajalakshmi, Sri Natarajar with Sri Sivagami Ambal, a Sahasra Lingam and the Navagrahams who are all lined up in a single row are found as Idols. There are Sub Shrines for Sri Ramar, Jatayu, Vinayagar, Subramaniyar, Sooryan, Chandran, Iyyanar and 63 Naayanmaars.

Opposite to the East Rajagopuram there is a Sub Shrine for Palani Andavar. It is believed that Jatayu who was killed in the battle was cremated here and this place is now called as Jatayu Kundam. This Temple is believed to be existing even before the 7th century. This Temple was built and developed by Vikrama Chola, Kulothunga Chola, Vira Rajendra Pandya, Achuthappa Nayak and Maratha Prince Thulaja. This Temple is famous for it's Naadi and Olai Chuvadi (Palm Leaves) Astrology because of which thousands of Devotees from all over India visit this Temple everyday. There is a huge Theertham called Ishkusara Theertham and the Holy Water here is believed to be as sweet as a Sugarcane Juice.
