Chrompet is located between Pallavaram and Tambaram. This Temple is situated in a place called Kumaran Kundram  which is a Hillock on the rear side of Chromepet in Hasthinapuram Main Road  which is again a Suburb of South Chennai. It is a hill Temple and has to be reached only by foot steps. There is no Motorable Road or facilities to reach there by Vehicles. In 1956 Sri Chandrasekarendra Sarawathi Swamigal of Kanchi Mutt while on a visit to Chromepet identified the hillock and asked Devotees to construct a Murugan Temple. Hence a modern Temple for Lord Murugan was gradually constructed and it was consecrated in the year 1979. There is a Sub Shrine for Ganapathy at the foothill and it is said that He has to be Prayed first before reaching the Temple hilltop. There is an Idol of Naga Devatha to the rear of the Ganapathy Sub Shrine. Devotees visiting this hilltop Temple may have to climb more than 150 steps and it could be an arduous task for the sick and elderly. Recently a new five tiered Rajagopuram has been added to this Temple. The Presiding Deity in Kumaran Kundram Temple is Sri Murugan who is known as Sri Bala Murugan. The Temple has Sub Shrines for Shivan, Ambal and Sri Sarabeshwarar. There is a Navagraha Sannadhi of this Temple at the foothill of the Temple. Likewise there is a Sub Shrine of Sri Anjaneya Swamy. The Temple has a small Hall in which Religious functions could be held. Devotees may be thrilled to have a Bird's Eye View from the Temple top. The Sthala Viruksham of this Temple is a Peepal Tree and the Sacred Tank or Pushkarani is known as Kumara Theertham. Devotees derive great pleasure since they could circumambulate (Girivalam) the small hill. Karthigai Deepam draws enormous Devotees.
