Mannivakkam is very close to Tambaram though it has been included in Kanchipuram District. Sri Manniswarar Temple is an East facing Temple. The Temple has a Dwajasthambam or Kodi Maram, a Neivedhya Peedam or Bali Peedam and an East facing Nandhi Vaahanam which is looking towards the entrance of the Temple. An East facing Nandhi Vaahanam is very odd and rare in a Shiva Temple. There are Idols of Dwara Ganapathy and Dwara Subramaniyar on either side of the entrance of the Moolasthanam. The Presiding Deity of this Temple Sri Manneeswarar who is an incarnation of Sri Shiva. The Idol of Sri Manneeswarar found in the form of a Swayambhu Shiva Lingam is around 4 feet tall. He Blesses His Devotees along with His Consort Goddess Maragathambikai Ambal.  The Urchavamoorthy is little taller and Surya and Chandran can be seen on His Kavasam. Like many other Shiva Temple this Temple also has Koshtam where Sri Ganapathy, Dhakshinamurthy, Maha Vishnu, Brahmma and Goddess Vishnu Durgai can be seen. There are separate Shrines for Sri Kanni Moola Ganapathy, Sri Subramaniya and He can be seen along with His Consorts Valli and Deivanai. In Maha Mandapam Bronze Idols of Sri Natarajar along with Sivakami and Sri Uma along with Sri Chandrashekar can be seen. This Temple is different from the other Shiva Temples since the Nandhi here does not face the Sanctum Sanctorum but instead turns away from it. Festivals like Brahmmothsavam, Pradosham, Shivarathri are celebrated in a grand manner. This Temple was built by Koluthunga Chola-I at the end of 11th Century. It is one of the 108 Shivan Temple that was built by Chola Kings in Thondai Mandalam.
