Unamancheri in the earlier times was known as Unam Maikkum Cholai and slowly after that people started this place as Unamancheri. Sri Koathanda Ramaswamy or Sri Kothanda Ramar Temple in Unamancheri is located near Vandalur in Chengalpattu District. The Temple is East facing and has a Neivedhya Peedam or Bali Peedam, a stone Dwajasthambam and a West facing Sub Shrine looking towards the Moolasthanam. The Sanctum Sanctorum in a multi pillared Mandapam and on top of the Gopuram the Idols of Sri Rama, Goddess Seetha, Lakshmana and Anjaneya Swamy are seen flanked on either side by Garudalwars. The Vimanam of the Moolasthanam is well designed and contains lots of coloured Idols. The Viman here is known as Nagara Vimanam. In the East facing Santum Sanctorum Sri Rama looks resplendent and is seen in the Pattabhisheka Kolam. Seen along with the Presiding Deity of Sri Rama are Goddess Seetha, Lakshmana, Hanuman, Bharathan and Shatrugan. There are Sub Shrines of Sri Lakshmi Narasimhar, Sri Lakshmi Narayanan, Sri Kaalinga Narthanar and others within the Temple premises. Many believe that this Temple is more tyhan 1000 years old but there are no inscriptions or proven methods for this. It is believed that this Temple came into existence during the period of the Vijayanagara Kings in the 15th century. The Temple has a Pushkarani or Sacred Tank which is situated on the posterior side of the Temple. They say that King Krishnadevaraya's brother was born with a major disability and during that time Krishnadevaraya had a dream in which a disabled God Rama had come and asked him to come to this Temple in Oonamancheri. It is later said thart the King's disabled brother Achuthadevaraya visited this Temple and he was cured of his physical disability soon thereafter. Sri Rama Navami, Hanumath Jayanthi, Vaikunda Ekadesi are some of the festivals that are celebrated in a grand manner. A Maha Kumbabishekam for this Temple was performed on 25th April 2012.
