Nemilichery is in the outskirts of Chennai and Sri Agasteeswarar Temple is located on the radial road leading from Thoraipakkam to Chromepet. Nemili means Peacock and Cheruvu means Thick Forest and in earlier days this place is called as Nemilicheruvu which later was pronounced as Nemilichery. It is said that this Temple is one of the 108 Shiva Sthalams in Thondai Naadu that was installed and worshipped by Agasthiyar. It is one of the Thevara Vaipu Sthalam. There is a Welcome Arch with the Idols of Shivan, Parvathi, Vinayagar and Murugan. This is an East facing Temple with a Neivedhya Peedam and a Nandhi Vaahanam facing West towards the Moolasthanam. The Sanctum Sanctorum is East facing with an Idol of Ganapathy and Murugan on either side of the threshold. The Presiding Deity of Sri Agastheeswarar is seen in the form of a Shiva Lingam and the Moolavar is placed of a Square Podium or Avudai. Around the Koshtam of the Moolasthanam are the Idols of Vinayagar, Dhakshinamoorthy, Lingothbhavar, Brahmma, Durgai and Chandikeshwarar. The Ambal who is known here as Sri Anandavalli Ambal is seen in Her South facing Shrine in a standing posture. She is seen holding the Paasam and Angusam in Her upper hands while Her lower hands depicts the Abhaya Hasta posture. 

The speciality of this Temple is that Suryan, Chandran and Bhairavar are all seen together in a Sub Shrine. The Artha Mandapam comprises of the Idols of Urchavamoorthy Sri Chandrasekarar with Parvathi, Natarajar with Sivagami ambal and Manickavasagar. There is a Temple Tank outside the Temple premises. The Temple has a Pasumadam or Ghoshala. It is believed that those Devotees who worship Sri Agastheeswar and Sri Anandavalli Ambal would be cured of all their physical ailments. Maha Shivarathri, Pradosham, Skandahara Chathurthi, Navarathri, Thei Pirai Ashtami are some of the festive occasions which draws lots of Devotees from far and near.
