Sri Agatheeswarar Temple is located in a busy Nungambakkam area of Chennai, The full name of the Temple is Sri Akilandeswari Samedha Sri Agatheeswarar Temple. Many misconstrue this Temple to have been installed by Sage Agasthiyar whereas it is not so. Sri Agatheeswarar means Agam which is the Inner Mind of a Human. Hence it implies that Sri Agatheeswarar would read the Inner Mind of all His Devotees who come and Pray. Such Prayers would be answered by Sri Agatheeswarar almost immediately. It is said to be the second Temple after Thiruvanaikaval to have Goddess Akilandeswari as the Presiding Deity's Consort .

This Temple has dual entrances and both these entrances facing North and South have Welcome Arches. The North facing entranece seems to be busier and the Gopuram has a centrally seated Shivan and Parvathy who are flanked by Sri Vinayagar and Sri Murugan. A cemented pathway leads the Devotees to the Temple wherein there is an East facing three tiered Rajagopuram. There are two Dwara Baalaka paintings on either side of the entrance. Facing the Moolasthanam are the Idols of Sri Siva Suryan and Sri Siva Chandran. Close to this are three West facing Idols of Sri Bommaraja and his family who was said to be a small King under King Krishnadevaraya. King Bommaraja was instrumental in bringing this Temple to this level.
