Sri Kothandaramar Temple is located in Sri Kothandaramar Kovil Street close to Ahobila Mutt School in West Mambalam. This street is adjacent to the Madley Road Subway in T.Nagar. This is an East facing Temple devoid of any conventional Rajagopuram. Instead there is an East facing Gopuram atop which coloured Idols of Sri Rama, Goddess Seetha, Sri Lakshmana, Sri Bharatha, Sri Shathrugun and Sri Anjaneya Swamy are all seen together. Flanking these Idols are two coloured Garudalwars Idol. 

On entering the Temple premises there is a West facing Sub Shrine of Sri Sanjeevi Parvatha Anjaneya Swamy who is seen in a standing posture holding aloft the Sanjeevi Hill which is flourished with Divine Herbs and Shrubs. Heading towards the Moolasthanam there is a Shrine of Sri Ranganayaki Thaayar to the left and Devotees may have to climb around 3 steps to reach this Shrine. This Shrine is East facing and Sri Ranganayaki Thaayar is seen in a seated posture Blessing Her Devotees. The Urchavamoorthy Idol of Sri Ranganayaki Thaayar is also seen in this Shrine. Close to this is a four pillared Oonjal Mandapam where Divine functions are conducted regularly.

Next is a Deepasthambam and at the base of this is an East facing Idol of Sri Anjaneya Swamy embossed on it. Here too Sri Anjaneya Swamy seems to hold aloft the Sanjeevi Hill in one of His hand. Then is a Neivedhya Peedam or Bali Peedam after which is a Dwajasthambam or Kodi Maram. Next in the line is a West facing Sub Shrine of Sri Garudalwar who seems to face towards the Moolasthanam. The Gopuram which encloses all the aforesaid places has a coloured Idol of Sri Rama, Goddess Seetha, Sri Lakshmana and Sri Anjaneya Swamy. Flanking these East facing Idols are two Garudalwars on either side. The traditional Sangu, Chakkaram and the Thirumann Srichurnam are also embossed here. Devotees may have to climb a few steps to reach the level of the Moolasthana Mandapam and the steps are flanked on either side by two Elephant Idols which are East facing. 

The Moolasthana Mandapam has several pillars. The threshold of the Sanctum Sanctorum has two Dwara Baalaka Idols who stand guard on either side and they are known as Sri Jayan and Sri Vijayan. In the Moolasthanam the Presiding Deity is known as Sri Pattabhiramar and He is seen sitting with Goddess Seetha on His lap. Sri Lakshmanar is seen flaunting an umbrella to Sri Rama and Goddess Seetha while Sri Anjaneya Swamy is seen closeby in a kneeling posture. This Presiding Deity was installed here initially by Sri Adhinarayana Dasar and hence this Temple is referred as Dakshina Bhadrachalam. Subsequent to this, Sri Vangaayala Kuppiya Chetty installed bigger Idols of Sri Kothandaramar along with Goddess Seetha, Sri Lakshmana and Sri Anjaneya Swamy in the year 1926 and this eventually came to be known as the Presiding Deity and this Temple as Sri Kothandaramar Temple. Both the Presiding Deities viz. Sri Kothandaramar and Sri Pattabhiramar could be seen in the Moolasthanam. The Urchavamoorthy Idols too are seen in the East facing Sanctum Sanctorum.

The Moolasthana Mandapam has an East facing Sub Shrine of Sri Ranganathar which is close to left Dwara Baalaka Idol. He is seen in a Sayana Kolam along with Sri Devi and Bhoo Devi. Sri Brahmma is seen evolving from His Naabikamalam. The Urchavamoorthy Idol of Sri Srinivasa Perumal is seen in a standing posture along with is Consorts. Close to the right Dwara Baalaka Idol is an East facing Sub Shrine of Sri Yoga Narasimhar who is seen in a seated posture. The Urchavamoorthy Idol of Sri Yoga Narasimhar and an Idol of Sri Kudamaadum Krishnar is also seen within this Sub Shrine. There is a South facing Sub Shrine of Sri Kulasekara Alwar within the same Moolasthana Mandapam. Close to this is another South facing Sub Shrine comprising of the Idols of Sri Garudalwar, Sri Senai Mudhalvar, Sri Nammalwar and Sri Thirumangai Alwar. The last South facing Sub Shrine in the Moolasthana Mandapam comprises of the Idols of Sri Udayavar Ramanujar and Sri Manavala Maamunigal. 

Around the Moolavar Koshtam a solitary South facing Idol of Sri Thumbikai Azhwar or Sri Ganapathy is seen. Parellel to the Sri Ranganayaki Thaayar Sannadhi on the left is another Sub Shrine on the right and this Sub Shrine belongs to that of Sri Andal Nachiyar who is seen in an East facing and standing posture. The Urchavamoorthy Idol of Sri Andal Nachiyar is also seen within the same Sub Shrine. Opposite to this is a West facing Paramapatha Vaasal or Sorga Vaasal which is kept open on Vaikunda Ekadesi Days. Atop this Gopuram is a coloured Idol of Sri Paramapathanathar who is flanked by two Garudalwar Idols on either side. The outer peripheral of the Temple has a South facing Thirukalyana Mandapam and the inner wall of this Thiru Kalyana Mandapam has two paintings of Sri Srinivasa Perumal and Sri Padmavathy Thaayar on it. There is an East facing painting of Sri Anjaneya Swamy along with a West facing painting of Sri Udayavar Ramanujar. A bronze Garuda Vaahanam could be seen in the Thirukalyana Mandapam.

The Sthala Viruksham of this Temple is an Arasa Maram or Peepal Tree and the Pushkarani or Sacred Tank lies next to the Ranaganayaki Thaayar Sannadhi within the Temple premises itself. The Sacred Tank or Pushkarani is known as Hanumath Theertham and Lakshmi Theertham. The Temple has its own Madapalli or Temple Kitchen for Neivedhyam purposes and for Prasadams to the Devotees. There is a huge West facing Vasantha Mandapam which is built opposite to the Kothanda Ramar Temple. It has two coloured Dwara Baalaka Idols on either side. The Gopuram of this Vasantha Mandapam has a centrally placed Sri Kothanda Ramar alongside with Goddess Seetha, Sri Lakshmana and Sri Anjaneya Swamy. Flanked on either side are the Idols of  Dasavatharam and two Idols of Garudalwars. The Temple Car or Chariot of Sri Kothanda Ramar Temple is safely seen in the street corner and is used only on festive occasion.

The Boomi Pooja for expansion work was performed in the 26th June 1926 and the Maha Kumbabishekam was performed in the 30th April 1927 as per Sri Vaikhanasa Agamam. Chithirai Brahmothsavam festival, Chariot festival, Vaikasi Vasanthothsavam, Yoga Narashima Garuda Seva Utsavam, Gajendra Moksham, Sri Ranganatha Garuda Sevai Utsavam, Thiruvadipuram, Sri Krishna Jayanthi, Pavitrothsavam and Navarathri festivals are celebrated in a grand manner.

Sri Kothandaramar Temple is situated in a busy residential locality close to the Ahobila Mutt School near Madley Road Subway. Hence parking of vehicles is totally at owners risk since the street seems to be busy and narrow. There is a small flower shop located opposite to the Temple.
