The full name of the Temple is Sri Sornambika Samedha Sri Karaneeswarar Temple and it is located in Saidapet close to the Railway Station. The Temple has a South facing seven tiered Rajagopuram. Beneath the seven tiered Rajagopuram are the two Idols that of Pattinathar and Badragiriyar. There is a South facing Gopuram and on top of it there are several Divine Idols. To the left of this multi pillared Gopuram is an East facing Sub Shrine of Ganapathy. Close to this Sub Shrine is an East facing Alankara Mandapam in which there is an Idol of Somaskandar. The outer peripheral has a Dwajasthambam or Kodimaram, a Neivedhya Peedam or Bali Peedam and a Nandhi Vaahanam with a four pillared Mandapam looking towards the Moolasthanam. On either side of the Nandhi Mandapam there are East facing Sub Shrines of Sri Vinayagar and Sri Subramaniyar. On top of the Gopuram there are Divine Idols. Standing guard on either side of the Moolasthanam are a pair of two huge Dwara Baalakas. Close to these two Dwara Baalakas is a small Vinayagar Idol along with that of Valli Devasena Samedha Subramaniyar. In the East facing Sanctum Sanctorum Sri Karaneswarar is in the form of a Shiva Lingam and He looks resplendent when seen along with the Naagabharanam. Very close to the Moolasthanam is a small Idol of Nandhi Bhagwan and a Neivedhya Peedam looking towards the Sanctum Sanctorum.  Around the Koshtam of the Moolavar are the Idols of Narthana Ganapathy, Dhakshinamoorthy, Maha Vishnu, Brahmma, Durgai and Chandikeshwarar. The Consort of Sri Karneeswarar is known as Sri Swarnambikai Ambal and She is seen in Her South facing Shrine in a standing posture. Two Dwara Baalaki Idols stand guard before the Shrine of Sri Sornambikai. Facing Her Shrine is a Simha Vaahanam along with a small Neivedhya Peedam. 

In the inner peripheral there is a North facing Vinayagar Idol and next to Him are the Idols of 63 Naayanmaars. Some of the Naayanmaars Idol are North facing while the rest of the them are East facing. The Urchavamoorthy Idols are kept in a South facing enclosure. Close to this is the South facing Sub Shrine of Sri Natarajar who is seen along with Goddess Sivagami and Manickavasagar. There is a South facing Sub Shrine of Bhairavar and West facing Sub Shrine of Surya Bhagwan looking towards the Moolasthanam. The outer peripheral has an East facing Sub Shrine of Sri Vedagireeswarar and a South facing Sub Shrine of His Consort Sri Thiripurasundari Ambal. 

The Temple has two West facing Sub Shrines of Sri Palani Andavar, Sri Anjaneyar along with an enclosure in which Devotees are expected to light oil lamps. There is a North facing Sub Shrine of Sri Agora Veerabadrar in the outer peripheral and facing His Sub Shrine is a Nandhi Vaahanam. The rear of the Moolasthanam has several dazzling glass panels within which Thirukailaya Kaatchi along with those of the Pancha Lingam has been depicted in an eye appealing way. The Panchalingams depicted here are Kancheepuram as Mann (Earth) Sthalam, Thiruvannamalai as Agni Sthalam, Thiruvannaikaval as Neer (Water) Sthalam, Chidambaram as Agaaya (Sky) Sthalam and Sri Sri Kaalahasthi as Vaayu Sthalam. The outer peripheral has an East facing multi pillared Sub Shrine of Sri Subramaniyar and He is seen flanked by His Consorts Valli and Devasena. They have portrayed the Idols of Arupadai Veedu (6 Abodes) on top of this Sub Shrine. There is a South facing enclosure for Thirukaraneeswarar Thevara Sabhai and close to this is the Navagraha enclosure. Beyond this is a Yaaga Saalai. The Temple has a Madapalli or Temple Kitchen and an Annadhana Koodam meant for Devotees. The Sthala Viruksham of this Temple is Mango Tree or Maa Maram and the Pushkarani is located outside the Temple premises and is known as Indira Theertham. This Pushkarani is believed to have Divine effects and Devotees having a holy dip here are said to get relieved from all their physical ailments. The Temple has its own Kalyana Mandapam functioning at No.9, Kulakarai Street in the name of Sri Sornambikai Karnaneeswarar Thirumana Mandapam. Ten day annual Chithirai Brahmothsavam, Pradhosham, Shasti, Kiruthigai, Navarathri, Shivarathri etc. During the Chithirai Thiruvizha, Thiruvasagam is preached to all Devotees visiting this Temple. There are rows of Flower Shops and a free Chappal Stand close to the Temple. This Temple is one of the Navagraha Sthalam that is present in Thondai Mandalam and is dedicated to Budhan Bhagwan and hence known as Budhan Parihaara Sthalam.
