Sri Kailasanathar Temple or Sri Chandran Temple is also referred as the Navagraha Parihaara Sthalam or some refer it very simply as Thingalur Temple. Thingalur is a small Village on the outskirts of Thanjavur Town. There is a small Welcome Arch on the road which is West facing and this Welcome Arch leads to the Temple. There is a three tiered East facing Rajagopuram which is gorgeously painted in various colours. Beyond it is a small Gopuram on top of which is a dancing Idol of Lord Natarajar. Beneath the Gopuram there are two coloured Dwara Baalaka Idols leading to the Temple. There is a West facing Idol of Surya Bhagwan. In the East facing Sanctum Sanctorum Sri Kailasanathar who is the Presiding Deity is found in the form of a Shiva Lingam. His Consort here is Sri Brihannayagi Ambal or Sri Periyanayagi Ambal who is seen in Her Shrine in a South facing standing posture. Close to the Moolasthanam there is a Sub Shrine in which Appooddhi Adigal, Arulmozhi, Mootha Thirunavukkarasar, Ilaya Thirunavukkarasar are found together facing Eastwards. There is another Idol of Thirunavukkarasar who is seen West facing. The outer peripheral has 3 East facing Sub Shrines for Ganapathy, Murugan flanked with Valli & Devasena and Gajalakshmi. Around the Koshtam the Idols of Dhakshinamoorthy, Lingothbhavar, Brahmma and Durgai. In the South facing Sub Shrine it is strange to see 2 Idols of Chandikeshwarar together. In the outer peripheral three Sub Shrines are found West facing and next to each other. A steel railing has been provided around these Sub Shrines as a measure for crowd control. In the first Sub Shrine Lord Bhairavar is seen in a standing posture. Next to this is the Navagraha Sannadhi. Then comes the all important Idol of Chandra Bhagwan. He is much revered here and ther is an erormous following for Him on all auspicious days. Though the Presiding Deity of this Temple is Sri Kailasanathar, Chandra Bhagwan gains prominence since this Temple is revered as Navaraha Parihaara Sthalam. This Temple is considered as a Vaipu Sthalam since many Nayanmaars have praised this Temple. It was the Chola Kings who actually built this Temple but later the Nayak Rulers of this area did many constructional devlopments to this Temple and had brought it to this level. There is a Divine book stall available here for the sake of the Devotees. Feeding Room too is available for Mothers who come here with infants. The Sthla Viruksham of this Temple is a Vilva Tree and the Sacred Pushkarani is known as Chandra Pushkarani. This Temple attracts a lot of Devotees from far flung and remote areas during Maha Shivarathiri, Margazhi Thiruvadhirai, Panguni Uthiram, Pradosham, Thiru Karthigai etc.
