Sri Koniamman Temple is supposed to be the guardian Deity of Coimbatore City and is believed to be more than 500 years old. This Temple is situated on the main road in a busy Ukkadam area of Kovai City. There is a huge seven tiered North facing Rajagopuram which tends to attract the attention of all passersby. Apart from this, there is a second three tiered North facing Rajagopuram with a Trident and the Tamil word OM SAKTHI written. To the right is a Sub Shrine of Sri Panchamuga Vinayagar who is seen with five faces and hence the name. The Sub Shrine of Sri Panchamuka Vinayagar is beneath a Peepal or Arasa Maram and is East facing. The Gopuram of this East facing Sub Shrine has a coloured Idol of Sri Panchamugha Vinayagar. Flanking the Idol of Sri Panchamugha Vinayagar are the Idols of Sri Raahu and Sri Kethu. Facing this Sub Shrine is a small West facing Moonjur Vaahanam.

To the right of the three tiered Rajagopuram is a Gopuram with a stucco Idol of Sri Koniamman who is seen in a seated posture crushing a Demon with Her Feet. Flanking Her are the Idols of Sri Siddhi Buddhi Vinayagar and Sri Subramaniyar with His Consorts Valli and Devasena. Beyond the three tiered Rajagopuram is a multi pillared Mandapam which looks gorgeously painted. This Moolasthana Mandapam has East facing Idols of Sri Durga and Sri Gowri. Apart from them there are two more West facing Idols of Sri Lakshmi and Sri Saraswathi. Facing the Moolasthanam is a Wooden Dwajasthambam or Kodi Maram, a Neivedhya Peedam or Bali Peedam and a Simha Vaahnam facing South and looking towards the Moolasthanam. Heading towards the Moolasthanam there are two North facing Dwara Baalaki Idols who seem to stand guard on either side of the threshold. In the Sanctum Sanctorum the Presiding Deity of Sri Koniamman is seen in a seated posture facing North. She looks resplendent to the eyes of Her Devotees and She is considered to be Omnipotent thereby granting boons and favouring the Wishes of Her beloved Devotees. She is considered as a Prime Goddess and any visitor to Coimbatore would never miss coming to this Temple and to seek Her Blessings. Some affordable Devotees offer a Mangala Suthra or Thirumangalyam which is known as Pottu Thaali to Sri Koniamman.

The outer peripheral of the Temple has a Navagraha Sannadhi which can be circumambulated. The point to be noted here is that all the Navagrahams are seen along with their respective Consorts. There is a North facing Sub Shrine of Sri Shantha Vinayagar who looks stunnningly impressive and this Sub Shrine could be circumambulated by the Devotees. This Temple has a North facing Sub Shrine of Sri Aadhi Koniamman who is considered as a Goddess of Time Immemorial. She is seen along with Sri Durgai, Sri Sapthamathas and a few more Idols of Divine Warriors. The outer peripheral has another North facing Sub Shrine of Sri Subramaniyar who is seen to be flanked by His Consorts Valli and Devasena. Facing this Sub Shrine is a Mayil or Peacock Vaahanam and beneath this Mayil Vaahanam is an Idol of a Sarpam.

The outer peripheral has a Arasa Maram or Peepal Tree which is considered Sacred and is smeared with Turmeric and Kumkum. This Temple has Mothers Feeding Room. The Temple also has a Madapalli or Temple Kitchen. The Temple has a huge multi pillared area with a semi circle tin sheet roofing where several hundreds of Devotees could be make to sit during festive occasions. It is also noteworthy to mention that a Golden Chariot or a Thanga Ther is run in the peripheral of this Temple during the evening hours. The Sthala Viruksham of the Temple is a Vanni Maram. It is believed that the Devotees visiting this Temple will get Marriage Boon, Child Boon and many Health related issues will be resolved. Devotees who are benefitted by the Blessings of Sri Koniamman offer Abhishekam to the Main Deity and Offer New Vasthrams to all the Deities in the Sub Shrine. Some Devotees indulge in poor feeding and bear the entire expenditure. Maasi festival, Pournami, Aadi Velli, Thai Velli, Navarathri, Dhanur Pooja, Pongal and Deepavali are celebrated in a grand manner here.
