Sri Kothanda Ramar Temple is located in Ramar Kovil Street in Ram Nagar in Coimbatore City. It is easily accessible since it is located very close to Gandhipuram Bus Stand. This is an South facing Temple with a five tiered Rajagopuram. There is a Neivedhya Peedam or Bali Peedam and a Dwajasthambam or Kodi Maram. Beyond it is a coloured Gopuram on which the Idols of Sri Ramar Pattabishekam is seen South facing and flanking this are a Sangu and a Chakkaram. On entering the Rajagopuram there is a four pillared Mandapam on the right side and in it is a Deepasthambam.
The threshold leading to the Moolasthanam is made of Silver and the Images of Ashtalakshmi are etched on it to make it look appealing. The wooden carving on top of the threshold looks amazing with its Sangu Chakkaram, Thirumann Srichurnam, Sri Garudalwar and Sri Anjaneyar Images. The Idols of Chander and Prachander are seen standing guard on either side of the threshold leading to the Moolasthanam. In the Sanctum Sanctorum there are South facing Idols of Sri Kothandaramar, Goddess Seetha and Sri Lakshmana. The Urchavamoorthy Idols of the above mentioned Gods are also seen in the Sanctum Sanctorum. Facing this Sub Shrine of Sri Ramar is a North facing Idol of Sri Anjaneya Swamy who is seen in a standing posture. This Anjaneya Swamy Sub Shrine also has the Urchavamoorthy Idol of Sri Anjaneya Swamy. The doors of the Anjaneyar Sannadhi bears different Images of Sri Hanuman which are fascinating to look at. The Silver plating threshold at the Anjaneyar Sannadhi adds glitter. The Moolasthana Mandapam has an East facing Sub Shrine of Sri Ganapathy. Facing the Sub Shrine of Sri Ganapathy is a small Neivedhya Peedam and a Moonjur Vaahanam. The doors of this Sub Shrine bears differnt Images of Sri Vinayagar making it look captivating. The threshold which is made of Silver looks glittering and adds beauty to the Sub Shrine.
The outer walls of the Sub Shrine of Sri Anjaneyar has three different black Idols of Sri Krishna. Sri Punnaimara Krishnar is seen East facing, Sri Udupi Krishnar is seen South facing and Sri Bhama Rukmani Samedha Sri Krishnar is seen West facing. The outer walls of the Sub Shrine of Sri Ganapathy has three various black Idols of Sri Vinayagar. The outer walls of the Moolasthanam has the Idols of Sri Erikatha Ramar, Sri Ashtabuja Ramar, Sri Yoga Ramar, Sri Dasavathara Ramar, Sri Boojitha Ramar, Sri Badrachala Ramar and Sri Pattabisheka Ramar. The rear of the main Temple has a Shrine Sri Abhathsagaya Vilva Lingeshwarar who is seen in a beautifully designed Mandapam beneath a Vilva Maram. He is seen in the form of an East facing Shiva Lingam and His Shrine can be circumambulated by the Devotees. The inner ceiling of this Mandapam has beautiful portraits of various types of Shivalingam. Close to this Shrine are two huge Arasa Maram with a podium built around it. The Idols of Sri Vinayagar and other Naga Devathas are seen displayed. The Navagraha Sannadhi looks splendid with its gold plating Gopuram and is located on a square podium beneath a four pillared Mandapam.
Close to the Main Temple is a South facing Auditorium known as Sri Abhinava Vidhyatheertha Pravasana Mandapam where Divine functions could be conducted. Close to this is a Yaaga Saalai. The Temple has different Madapallis according to the Sub Shrines and Gods seen therein. Rama Navami, Hanumath Jayanthi, Pradosham, Vinayagar Chathurthi, Thiru Karthigai are some of the functions that are celebrated with great fan fare. This Temple does not allow the Devotees to use Mobile Phones but on the contrary the Purohits seen in the Sub Shrine use them liberally. There is also a general grumbling among the residents of this Street alleging that the Office Bearers of this Temple have usurped a part of the pavement for parking their own vehicles due to which the public find it a bit embarrassing. Other than this, the Temple sets a perfect example of a model Temple and is being maintained very Neat and Tidy.
