The Temple is located in Thandalacheri near Thiruthuraipoondi in Thiruvarur District. The Presiding Deity of this Temple is Lord Neeneri Nathar or Neelnerinathar who is none other than Lord Shiva himself. He is also called as Sthira Buddhi Easwarar. Lord Shiva Blesses his Devotees along with his Consort Goddess Gnanambika. This Temple is nearly 2000 years old. Initially this place was known as Thiruthandalai Neel Neri. This is the 110th Shiva Temple located on the Southern Bank of River Cauvery. The Presiding Deity is in the form of a Swayambumurthi. Saint Arivatta Nayanar was born here and he is one of the 63 Saivite Nayanmar. The Chola King Kochenganan constructed this Temple since he was cured of Leprosy at this place. It is believed Devotees that visiting this Temple will be cured from Leprosy. It is one of the 78 Maadakovils built on an elevation so that elephants cannot enter the Sanctum Sanctorum. The unique factor of this Temple is that River Ganga is found on the feet of Lord Nataraja whereas in other Temple we will be finding River Ganga on His Head. There is a Shrine for Adhikara Nandhi at the entrance. There are Sub Shrines for Lords Vinayaka, Subramaniyar, Vyakarapathar, Suryan, Chandran, Arivattaya Nayanar and Navagrahas. This Temple dosen't have a Dwajasthambam or a Flag Staff. There are Statues of Naalvar and Chola King Kochenganan at the front Mandapam. We can find the Stucco Image of Lord Shiva as Rishabaroodar and Arivatta Nayanar killing himself using knife at the entrance of Moolavar Sannadhi. The Sthala Viruksham of this Temple is Kurundham Tree and the Holy Water is known as Omaka Theertham.
