This Temple is located in Sethalapathy, Poonthottam Post, Nannilam Taluk in Thiruvarur District and is very close to Koothanur. The Presiding Deity is Sri Muktheeswarar, an incarnation of Lord Shiva. His Consort is known as Porkodinayagi or Swarnavalli. Apart from 1) Kasi, 2) Rameswaram, 3) Gaya, 4) Srivanchiyam, 5) Thiriveni Sangamam amd 6) Thiruvengadu, this Temple Town of Thilatharpanapuri is the 7th place fit for performing Last Rites. Hence this place is known as a Mukthi Sthalam. Saint Arunagirinathar has sung in Praise of this Temple.  Aadhi Vinayagar is in a Human form without his usual Trunk and Tusks. Aadhi Vinayagar Blesses from a separate Shrine and is known as Nara Mukha Ganapathi  It is said that Lord Rama performed the Last Rites for His father King Dasaratha and the Divine Bird Jatayu and after this King Dasaratha attained Mukthi from here and they are found as Pithur Lingams. Hence some say that the Deity is called as Muktheeswarar due to this reason. Lord Rama and  Lakshman, Brahmma, Suryan, Chandran Prayed to Lord Shiva here. The Temple is unique in not having a Kodimaram like other Temples. In the Praharam Lord Rama is seen doing Tharpanam to King Dasaratha. There are 4 Lingams in the outer peripheral or Praharam. There is Vedha Paadasaalai within the precincts of the Temple and around 60 Students study here and stay in the hostel at the same premises. This Veda Paada Salai is managed by Mr.Swaminatha Sivachariar whose phone number is 94423 90299 and 94427 14055. The Sacred Tree or Sthala Viruksham is Manthirai Tree and the Sacred Tank is known as Chandra Theertham.  It is a must visit Temple for any Devotees to remember their Forefathers. The Temple is enough of car parking space. There is a small solitary shop for Pooja  articles and the shop is owned by Mr.Manikandan and taken care of by Mr.Kannan
