The Presiding Deity of this Temple is Kokamukeshwarar or also known as Gokamukeshwarar who is an incarnation of Lord Shiva. He Blesses His Devotees along with His Consort Gnanambigai.  This Temple is also referred as Gogamukeshwarar by many.  This Temple is 1500 years old and was built by Chola Kings. It is believed that King Rajaraja Chola used to visit this Temple very often in order to get the Blessings of Lord Shiva. This Temple has Sub Shrines for Lord Selva Ganapathy, Lord Murugan, Lord Dakshinamoorthy and Navagrahas. Though the Presiding Deity is Lord Shiva, Lord Muruga is believed to be very powerful in this Temple. It is believed that visiting this Temple continuously for eleven Tuesday and performing Archanai  to Lord Murugan will resolve all Marrage Related Issues. It is said that Childless Devotees visiting this Temple during the Yagam performed on Sashti festival will be blessed with a Child.
