The Presiding Deity of this Temple is Lord Nellivana Nathar or Nellivaneswarar who is an incarnation of Lord Shiva. He Blesses His Devotees along with HIs Consort Goddess Mangalanayaki. This Temple has been praised by Thirugnanasambandar in Thevaram and is considered as the 117th Devaram Paadal Petra Sthalam which is located on the Southern Bank of Kavery.  Lord Shiva can be seen as a Swayambumoorthy here in this Temple . The Sanctum Sanctorum is built in a such a way that during the final days of Tamil month Masi Sun Rays fall directly on the face of Lord Shiva. Devotees come here to Pray and get cured of Leprosy and to over come their Anger. The Sthala Viruksham of this Temple is Nelli Maram. It is believed that this Temple was built by Amalaesa Chola.  The ten Day Chithirai Bramothsavom, Avani Month Thirukalyanam, Navarathri, Thai Poosam, Thiru Vilakku Poojai are celebrated in a grand manner in this Temple.
