This Temple is located in Thiruverkadu which is a Suburb of Chennai. The full name of the Temple is Sri Baalambigai Udanurai Vedapureeswarar Temple. The Temple is East facing with a massive Rajagopuram. The Presiding Deity is Lord Shiva in the name of Vedhapureeswarar. His Consort Parvathi is known here as Goddess Balambigai. This is one among the 276 Thevara Paadal Petra Sthalam and it is the 23rd Shiva Sthalam in Thondai Naadu. The Main Deity is a Lingam and its a Self Manifested Swayambhumurthy. Just behind the Shiva Lingam in the Moolasthanam is Lord Vedapureeswarar along with Baalambigai in a Kalyana Kolam for the sake of Sage Agasthiyar and He is seen with a Human Face The rear of the Sanctum Sanctorum is built in Gajabrustam style. Goddess Baalambigai has a separate Sub Shrine which is South facing. The front portion of the Main Temple is so huge and well cemented and it has several iron pillars with a huge tinned roofing for the protection of the Devotees from Heat and Rain. The Chola's had built this Temple and its also called as Vada or North Vedaranyam. This place is called Visham Theenda Pathy since Aadiseshan had promised not to bite and kill anyone. Close to the Moolasthanam are the 63 Naayanmaars along with an Idol of Pollaa Pillayar and a Naalvar Sannadhi closeby. There is an exclusive Sannidhi for Arunagirinathar. Likewise there is an exclusive Navagraha Sannidhi here. There are Sub Shrines for Bala Vinayagar, Dhakshinamoorthy, Lingothbhavar, Brahmma, Durgai, Chandikeshwarar, Vinayagar, Kasi Viswanathar, Kasi Visalakshi, Sekkizhar, Murugan, Suryan, Chandran, Kaala Bhairavar, Sage Agasthiyar and Sani Bhagwan. Saint Moorga Nayanar of the 63 Nayanmar was born and lived here. The Sthala Viruksham is Vellvel Maram with a Nandhi and a Lingam beside it. Young Devotees willing to get married go around the Temple with a Garland on their neck. Likewise many Devotees celebrate their Sadhabishegam (81st Birthday) here. Several Nag Devthas are kept beneath a Neem Tree. The Temple has a fenced Nandhavanam or Garden. There is a huge well within the Temple premises supplying water. A Temple Kitchen helps Devotees in serving the Prasadhams. Likewise an Annadhaanakoodam is available to serve free food to the Devotees. The Temple is under the Administrative Control of Devi Karumariamman Temple, Thiruverkadu. The Pushkarani is called as Velayutha Theertham or Veda Theertham. Maha Shivarathiri, Pradosham, ThiruKarthigai, Aarudhra Dharishanam are celebrated in a grand manner. The Temple is also famous as a Parihaara Sthalam for Navagraha Dosham.
