Sri Oothukaattu Ellaiyamman Kovil is located on the main road in Kumananchavadi, Poonamallee, Chennai. Though Sri Oothukaattu Ellaiyamman Temple is East facing there is another entrance which is West facing or in other words this Temple has dual entrances. Devotees may have to climb 6 to 7 steps to reach the level of the Temple premises. The East facing Gopuram of the Temple has centrally seated Sri Oothukaatu Ellaiyamman on a Throne which is guarded by a five headed Serpant. Flanking this are two Simha Vaahanams on either side. The pillars near the Dwajasthambam has the Idols of Sri Vinayagar and Sri Murugan embossed on them. Likewise there are two Dwara Baalaki Idols standing guard on both sides.

There is a tall Dwajasthambam close to the East facing entrance and beyond this is a Neivedhya Peedam and a Simha Vaahanam looking West towards the Moolasthanam. Beyond this there are two more huge coloured Idols which are East facing and standing guard before the threshold of the  Moolasthanam. Atop is a centrally seated Gajalakshmi's coloured Idol. Devotees may have to climb 4 to 5 steps yet again to reach the Moolasthanam. There is yet again a pair of black Dwara Baalagi Idol standing guard. It is said that the original Uthukaadu Ellaiamman had come here 300 years ago while doing Her Nagarvalam. At that time She was resting beneath a Neem Tree and this Temple's Swayambhu Oothukaadu Ellaiamman Vigraham was found out from the area and excavated and this is being kept as the Presiding Deity even today and Prayed. An ornamental Silver Mugappu too could be seen next to this. In recent years they have installed a new Presiding Deity on an elevated podium above the aforesaid Swayambhu Amman Vigraham. These could be seen together in the East facing Sanctum Sanctorum even today. Devotees coming here to Pray are simply awestruck to see the Presiding Deity who looks resplendent to the eyes of the Devotees. There is a West facing Idol of Sri Parasuramar before the Moolasthanam who is revered here as the Son of the Presiding Deity. Around the Koshtam of the Presiding Deity are the following Idols of Narthana Vinayagar, Sri Easwari, Sri Vaishnavi, Sri Brahmmi and Sri Durgai. The ceiling before the Moolasthanam has lovely coloured Images of Sri Oothukaatu Ellaiamman annhilating the Demons.

The flooring of the entire Temple has a well tessellated red tiles and the ceiling has gorgeous designs in various colours. Most of the pillars have Idols of Sri Ganapathy, Sri Murugan and Ashtalakshmis. The Western entrance on the rear side of the Temple has a Gopuram with a coloured Idol of Oothukaatu Sri Ellaiamman on top. Many Devotees of Her consider this Temple as a Village Temple guarding the places in an around Kumananchavadi and Poonamallee. Tamil Aadi Months is celebrated with great pomp during which time the Temple draws enormous number of Devotees from Chennai City and its adjoining Villages. The Temple has been estabilished by its Trustee by Sri Poovai Gnanam and Mrs.Nirmala Gnanam.
